Ok, whole new problem..engine height.

OK, here it goes. I got a 67 camaro for basically free. I worked on the guys fish tank for like 2 years to pay it off. I am only 21, so funds are limited. No rust on the car anywhere. Brand new 350 with hump heads, mild cam, 650 holley, and new turbo 350. Here is the problem.

It came with a fiberglass 2 inch cowl hood. I broke it off, on accident, forgot about the hood pins latching all the way, and it blew off at 80mph. Oh well, I hated the damn thing anyway. So I measure the clearance fore a new hood, and the engine sits about 1 inch higher then the hood line, so a stock hood wont fit. So I buy and install, with an orginal latch and assembly, a 2 inch steel cowl. However, I notice 1 of my motor mounts is busted, pass side. So I go to order new ones and find there are 2 sizes available. So I measure mine and it turns out I need the 327 block ones to match my frame mounts. Hmmmm. So I go back to the guy, he confirms that it was an original 6-banger car. I get home, run my numbers off the tag, and sure enough it was an 8 cyclinder car originally. However, no special engine code, so I figure it has to be an original 327 car. Which strangly enough is the engine it cam with before the 350. So heres the question...



Are the frame mounts different for a 327 and 350? Since I have a 327 motor mount and have a 327 frame mount, is this pushing the 350 up an extra couple inches? The 350 has a taller deck size right? If so, could I get a 350 frame mount and 350 motor mount thus lowering the engfine a few inches for a lower center of gravity and less likely to break a motor mount?

i thought all small blocks had the same mount.and the deck height diff in a 327 and 350 isnt going to change anything that much

All of the factory small blocks have the same deck height, and the mounting holes on the block are the same. There is a different mount for the 307 and 327 engines, vs. the 302, 350, and big blocks. I suspect the difference is how they position the engine relative to the frame. I would probably use the 350 mounts, since they should position the engine lower in the chassis.

The 327 mounts are shorter then the 350 mounts. And I have the 327 mounts on the engine now. So if I get the 350 mounts then the mounts would not line up, right?

Measure your existing mounts and get the same ones - the stands on the frame are different as well.

I just pulled my 327 and sold it, if I bought the 350 mounts and stands would that raise my engine? The reason I ask is I am hoping to raise the engine a bit for additional header clearance.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure, but I would suspect the 350 mounts would lower the engine. Most of the 307 and 327 cars originally would have had two barrel carbs and pretty low rise manifolds, the 302, 250, and 396 seem like they would have needed as much underhood clearance as possible.

I may be wrong but the different mounts use different lower stands and don't change the installed height very much. I have swapped uppers and lowers before to lower an engine but it is not a direct bolt on swap and required some fab work. FRANK
