Dr. Gas??

i got a 1988 monte carlo ss....and im havcing SCandC do some work to my car in the next couple weeks. One thing im having them do is to hang my exhaust correctlly and too add a set of pipes that end in front of the wheels. Now...I have a 2.5 inch true dual set up from Torq-Tech...with flowmaster 40 series and dumps. I was gonna have them put on a side exit but those dr. gas tips are stupid expensive!! For those of you out there that have side exit tips....what are you running for the tip if anything?? Im looking for a nice oval, flatter look than the basic round pipes. Also...is oval tubing worth it?? im not having a serious ground clearance issue...but i might in the near future. Thanks.

i am wandering the same thing. i am putting the truck arm suspension under my car, and am trying to decide what to do for exhaust. the main problem i think i will have w/ side exit is the little room for mufflers. i have looked at the dr. gas boom tubes, but, like you said, they are very expensive. i don't think they will do much for quietness.

Hope somebody has some ideas,

I have a 3" side exit exhaust by Spintech with the Dr. Gas X pipe crossover on my car that I am really happy with. Spintech makes a 3" single side in and out muffler that flows really well and has a unique sound, nicer than Flowmasters. Spintech has the ability to fabricate oval tubing. I paid the extra for a polished stainless oval tip. It looked pretty good at first but after 12,000 miles it has quite a few marks in the finish from road debris. If I had to do it again I think I would try to use a tip something like what is put on NASCAR race cars. Attached are a couple links to some photos of the exhaust after it was installed.

Do you have any issues with heat build-up on the rear tires with the exhaust dumping directly in front of them?

And could you post a picture of the side profile fo your car. I'm curious to see how close it is to the paint.

Dan, I do not have any problem heat build-up on the tires or the paint for that matter.
The tip of the exhaust is clear enough of the car that the hot exhaust gasses do not pass across the tires.
