      Rear drum-disc on G-Body

Is there a way to convert to rear disc using a donor(if so what) and would I have to do any welding; or would I be better off buying a kit. 80 Malibu.

      Hello,

A possible donor would be 1993-1997 F-body, but it will require some welding. The axle flange on the F-body is a rectangular 4-bolt flange, and the G-body has the 3-bolt flange. It's probably best to weld the brackets to the axle flanges.

I have G-body brackets from Baer that I'm using on my S-10 truck (which use the F-body calipers), and they clock the calipers at the 4/8 O'Clock position. The Baer G-body instructions mention a bracket to relocate the shocks, but I haven't seen such a bracket (my Baer kit was pieced together with Baer -- very helpful bunch!).

If I were to get a kit I'd buy the Baer kit, but if you're up to some welding then an F-body donor isn't a bad route.

I have the BAER rear brackets & found F body calipers from the bone yard & Vette rotors & made my own "kit". I am working on getting some brackets made for this setup. I have to take mine all apart & double check that I have the bottom two holes in the flange in the right location. Unless someone has theirs already apart, or knows the dimensions of thos holes. Anyway the BAER kit has the calipers on the back side of the axle, then that requires two shock relocation brackets. I think the calipers can mount on the front side of the axle & not interfere with the lower trailing arms, but not 100% sure. The other thing that was a pain in the @SS, was the brake lines. The F body calipers mount/seal to a metric style flare. There is/was no tool to make this when I did mine. So I bought new metric flared lines, cutoff one end & flared it to fit the "T" on the center housing. Welded a couple little brackets near the ends to mount the flexible lines. Bleed, and was good to go.
