69 RS Hideaway Lights - alignment issues

Not sure if this is the best forum for this. I've read all the posts and know i'm not alone here. Having a helluva time aligning my 69 RS hideaway light grilles to fit cleanly. Aside from a slight tilt, the main issue is that the grilles are probably 1/2" too high in the cavity. I've started shimming down the bell crank but feel that's a janky solution. Does anyone ever cut and shorten the bell cranks? or am i the only one with the grilles simply too high?

Any other tips on aligning these swiss watches?


Btw i've installed the DSE electric hideaway light kit.
