Haltech, Dakota Digital and complete chasis harness. Where to start?

So Ive been working on my 1967 Camaro for about 8 years now. I'm working on the electrical right now and Im feeling a little bit overwhelmed and not sure where to even start. So if you guys could give me a little advice and maybe some reassurance on a few things it would be appreciated!

      Here is what I have:
      1967 Chevy Camaro RS
      2012 LS3 with a TR6060
Haltech Rebel LS for a Gen IV with a T56
      Painless Wiring complete chassis harness
Dakota Digital VHX dash and counsel gauges
      Dakota Digital BIM-01-2 OBDII/Can Interface

I started installing the chassis harness first and I'm not very far along. I'm wondering if I shouldn't pull it out and depin the wires I dont need as the Haltech takes care of the engine, electric fan and fuel pump as well as all the engine preasures and temps?

I just got the Dakota Digital box today, one question I have other than possibly a power wire and ground is there any diagnostic wire in the chassis harness I need?

Thats all for now but I'm sure I will have more questions as I get into this more.

      Thanks in advance!

I'm just coming to the end of basically the same job. Do one thing at a time and check your circuits as you go with a 12v power supply. A cheap 30 amp power supply will run any accessory you have and won't melt wires if you have a mistake. I think I have about 3 months of full weekends into the job total - it's time consuming.

One open item is the CANBUS module interface for my VHX dash. Probably setup/user error but I'm not getting temp or RPM to it yet.

One piece of advice I would give is don't loom anything until you are certain it's finished. I mostly followed this but ended up having to redo some conduit because I got ahead of myself.

Doesn't Dakota Digital make a Haltech specific BIM module?

Yes they do. That is what I ordered and it may be what I have. I got a lot of parts in at once so I’ll double check later. I’m pretty sure the part # ended with HAL.

Couple unrelated things. The upper ball joint is on the wrong side of the plate in the upper control arm, it goes in from the top. Your brake hoses should loop down from the caliper and up the frame mount.

Good wiring is all about planning. Some people slam the chassis harness in and treat every other component like an individual install. I start at my desk with the instructions for everything on the car and determine what needs power and what kind. I map out the routing of everything, first with just lists. As an example, I know the Left front corner of the car needs high and low beam, park light and turn signal. Where is the horn? How am I powering the fans, where is the battery and how am I connecting that to the charging system?

Asking a lot of questions to yourself allows to solve problems, on paper, easily.

Then I wire the engine/trans and after that the dash, HVAC, and all switches. After that you are 80% done and all you have left is lighting, fuel tank, and other stuff.

little old but not too told, hopefully you’ve not cut any dash wiring to get in the VHX, you’ll want to go to newradsolutions.com for the stock plug to Dakota harnessName: IMG_5660.jpg
