      McLeod Hydraulic conversion- Bracket adjustment?

Hi- My McLeod hydraulic conversion master cylinder (installed in 69 Camaro) has begun to leak after about 1,000 miles. Per McLeod, it is because the rod is not set straight and is offset. They suggested I shim the rod on the pedal bolt with washers, but I noticed the bracket is not flush to the firewall compared to their "stock" photo. Seems like the easier and correct thing to do would be to straighten the bracket so it sits flush to the firewall, then see if the rod is still off. Any experience with this from others here? Thank you in advance!!Name: Screenshot_20250901_140350_Chrome.jpg

I made sure the pedal bushings up top were replaced with new ones and make sure that when attaching the fasteners you get them in the right order otherwise you side load the piston which results on seal wear.
