Rear end shortening for more lip!

Wanting to get different wheels at some point. If I am going to take the plunge, I want so lip on the rear wheels. With that comes the need to shorten my 9". The question for those who have gone through it. How much did you shorten your rear end? I am not looking for crazy 5" lip or anything like that. But I know I want at least 2" more per side. What did you guys go with??? Also, pics if you have them. I will post some wheels I have been looking at as well.

These are on Robert Downey Jr's mustang. They are HRE's and crazy expensive. They are knockoffs of the old panasports they used to run in the Trans Am series. That's alot of dish, maybe 4 inches, tough to tell from the photo.

You have to approach this like you are building from scratch. Buy the wheels/tires you want first then mock them up on the car and measure the axle width you need to position the wheels where you want them. The actual process of shortening the axle is a completely different topic.Name: img_7017.jpg

This is the best approach, not only is lip width a desired goal, but overall fitment is as,if not more important. By purchasing the wheels first you can set them up to the desired width and build the rear end accordingly. I narrowed my rear end perhaps a little too much, have significant rear lip which is nice, and still wish they sat a little wider overall.

you already have a huge lip..
you need different wheels that dont have the step in them which makes the lip not look as big.

in my eyes, a big lip on a pro-turing car looks silly, pro-street cars have huge lips, pro-touring doesnt.
-show me one lambo, ferrari, porsche any 'supercar' that has huge lips..

That is Robert Downey Jr's Mustang. I think he wrecked it.
