      1968 Camaro - Didn't Fit!!

      Hey fellas -

Just got back from looking at a beautiful 68 Camaro that the gent had quickly finished with some Procar seats. I think they were these ones: https://procarbyscat.com/product/rally-lowback/

Anyway, long story short, my head was hitting the roof - and that was with before a helmet. I'm not an overly tall guy (6 foot 1) and I've fit in all types of cars including a '66 Mustang Coupe and an AMG GT R.

Any thoughts on what I would replace the seats with to gain extra headroom? Is this a normal occurrence in First Gen Camaros? This was the first one I've ever been in.

Like to take a run at it but certainly not if I can't drive it 8 hours to get it home!

      Thoughts?

Will be using it for Autocross as well. I don't care if the seat is comfortable or not.

You can put whatever seat you want in that car and make brackets to sit you wherever you want.

I'm 6'1" as well, put 2007 Nissan Maxima seats in my 4 door 64 chevelle. Set them back and low enough to where I'm very comfortable driving it and can use a helmet as well as my 4'10" wife can run the electric adjustment all the way forward and up so she can drive comfortably. If you like the procar seats you might can find a metal fabricator to modify the seat bracket to set it down more for you, just look to see if there's room between the seat bottom and the floor of the car. I've also seen people go as far as modifying the floorpan to fit seats more comfortably.. With the stock bench seat slid all the way backward the bottom frame would have sat on top of the shifter, reason I went to the junkyard for bucket seats, cost $125 and a little time cutting and welding brackets to fit the 64's floor pan.

I'm just about even w/ the B pillar, before the stock bench was at the B pillar, knees were around the steering wheel, felt like I was trying to drive a gocart.. I can stretch my legs pretty far out now, have to stretch to hit the highbeam foot switch with my big toe.

Man, great looking ride and I appreciate the feedback!

I’ll have to find a relatively easy temp solution to be able to drive the car home haha.

      On it!

I have the same seats but with a TMI headliner. The headliner gains you a couple of more inches.

      No **** eh?

I wouldn't have thought that. I will check to see what is in the car right now.

      Thank you!

If he used procar's mounts, that's likely part of the issue. That's a constant knock. I made my own in my 2nd gen

Pro car seats are as supportive as a bean bag chair, so you don't want those for your intended purpose.

Look at Recaro, sparco, cobra......fabricate mounts to sit where you want. Stop at nothing to get the ergonomics right or you will hate the car.

100%. Used Recaro in my last car when we swapped out to a better racing seat.

Looks like that Speedtech car is conditionally sold when I called in as well. Not 100% sure if they are just being difficult or not - really hard to deal with that particular consignment shop. Getting responses and someone to talk to was a real strange experience.

      This.

My friend John, who is about 6', had to lower the drivers seat in his '68 Camaro by removing the seat pan and mounting directly to a reinforced floor pan.

The way I fit in a seat is different than someone else, so for me to say that Sparco Torino's are great is not doing anyone else much good. Like a helmet, shoes, and eyeglasses, seats must be tried on to see if they fit you. Sitting in one for a minute or two does not count.

Then, mount the seat to the car to fit your ergonomics. Is it a PITA? You betcha. So is getting the steering wheel diameter, offset, and rim materials correct. Pedal and shifter placement, etc. all take a bunch of time to get right but make a world of difference in driving comfort.
