      GTO top speed?

      Anyone know the top speed of a 2005 GTO? A guy that I work with says he had it up to 215 but I think he's full of it... Only mods are a chip that among other things apparently disables the speed restrictor. I think it would be lucky to go 165...

      He's nuts, but I wouldn't be surprised if it went 170. Speaking of nuts, he's got some if he thinks he went 215 on the tires that car comes with.

      The 4th gen F-bodies with slight bolt ons will run out of steam around mid 170s (162 stock, with stock rev limiter), and they seem to have much better aero, and are also a hell of a lot lighter. This guy is full of it...

      Sounds like the guy doing 175 in his '06 Charger on the LIE (only the guys that attended the L.I. cruise will understand that...

      I've heard of mid to upper 160's out of the 05's. No chance in hell of 215!

      A showroom stock LS1 4th gen with a 6 speed will run 162, if it had Z rated tires from the factory. This is with the factory 6200rpm rev limiter, in 5th gear. I'm not going to argue this point, but of people have accomplished this, do a search on LS1tech. With simply bolt-ons, and a raised rev limiter, 170s is definitely possible. Rear gears on an M6 car are 3:42s.

      P.S. There's a guy on LS1tech who races in the SSC and some other ORR events. He's had his 4th gen SS over 200. He has extensive motor work, and lots of aero and weight reduction, if I remember correctly. Getting a car to run 200 (or 215) is no easy feat.

      Ralph, You got a quick conversion chart to see what 162mph coverts to in kilometers?

      My cell phone has a conversion calculator.

      162mph = 260 km/h

      Thanks, after I asked, I remembered Allens cal. thread and found the same answer. I bet that is what the deal here is. 215 kilometers would be 133 mph. Sounds doable, just dummy operating dash settings. Plus it sounds alot better too.lol

      LOL yeah, sounds like that's what he may have been doing. 130mph comes at the very top of 4th / bottom of 5th in an M6 F-body.
