Rear springs ?

ive got a 67 camaro street/strip setup that im going to change the rear springs on. currently i have multi-leaf lowering springs from detroit speed. since im going with more of a drag racing set up i dont really care for them, too much tire rub, etc. i got a comp. engenering slide a link for x-mas so the springs need to come off anyways. my ? concerns the new springs and the rates. classic offers a 4-leaf that has a 126lb rate and a 5 leaf that has a 143lb rate. is one better then the other? should i just put silgle leafs back on there? if it makes a difference i have lakewood drag shocks on all 4 corners, 50/50 out back and 70/30 in the front. thanks

Ask for scott curtis @ landrum and discuss your combo with him .I spoke with him 3 days ago and he referred me to hotchkis .He didn't try to sell me any thing just thought what i was trying to do could be acheived better thru them.

if youre going racing call cal trac, they offer rear springs that compliment their bars. the comp engr bars are pretty much based on the cal tracs.
how fast are you running, stock multi's will get the job done in most cases. if youre bracket racing and need dead on consistency or running sub 11's i'd look into the aftermarket springs, otherwise the stockers will get you racing and you can tune from there, dont overlook pinion angle on first gens, a couple of degrees makes a big difference, just pull the shims for street driving.

Right now im running a mid 13 at 108 as my best et. i have the traction issue and the car was tuned by myself and i dont have a clue what i was doing for the most part. my goal is to be a solid mid to low 12 second car.

srom the slips i have they are all 2.2xx and worse, the best one i could find was a 2.1. but i cant find the slip from my 13.5 run. found that 13.5 run and th 60' was 2.169

I talked to scott curtis and he told me that their springs probally werent for me, im not sure about the cal-tracs. i guess my main concern is price vs performance. are the aftermarket leafs really that much better then the stockers? especially after i put the traction bars on them? if they will be about equal id perfer to save the $100 or so and spend it elseware, like dyno tuning. thanks

I'm curios as to why you don't use the DSE springs you have. I am using the 2" drop DSE's and have Cal-Tracs with no issues. Are the spring rates that far off of optimum. I think the DSE's are rated at 175lbs./" By the way, with your 108 mph trap speed, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting your low 12 sec. ET. Just need to get your launch/60' time down.

I just re-read your post and see you are having tire rub issues also. Maybe it is just a wheel offset problem. I use 28x11.5 ET Streets(for the track) with a 5" backspace with no problem.

norwood, it is an offset problem, i know that, but i was kinda trying to take the cheap way out and get springs. im still not sure wat to do as i really want a set od pro-stars but just dont have the cash right now. the more i think about it the more i think i will keep the DSE springs. thats part of the reason that this post is over a month old and nothing has been done yet.
