Are the front parking lights on my 67 camaro supposed to go out when I turn on the headlights?

On a 1967 Model year, yes.
You can bypass this by running a jumper wire from the Front Run Light Circut to the Rear Run Light Circut on the Headlight Switch.

I pretty sure in 1968 the Headlight switch was changed to accomdate the Front Run Lights to be on with the headlights.

      I hope this helps

At the Headlight Switch, you should have a Purple (Front Run Lights) and a Brown (Rear Run Lights). You can either Splice a “Jumper” wire into the Purple and then Splice it into the Brown. Or cut the Purple wire off the back of the Headlight Connector and Splice it into the Brown.

      I hope this helps,

Hey Sparky, that's good info. After I rewired my 69 and replaced the headlight switch, I have the same thing going on. Sort of ticked me off, but didn't know the cause of it. Maybe I have a switch for a 67. I will do your jumper wire solution and be happy again. Thanks.

I just wanted to understand why cars built before 1968 shut the front run lights off when the headlights are turned on.
So, I did a Google search on Vehicle Lighting Requirements and found the “Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108” is the Government Requirement for Lighting on Vehicles.
It’s my understanding that the Requirement has a Candlepower minimum and maximum allowable values, regardless of how many lights are turned on. Each light on a vehicle has a specific candlepower requirement.
But I have always understood that the law states that you can have a total of six lights on at one time on the front of a vehicle (Car), or maybe it's actually the Candlepower requirement??
Big Trucks with cab lights fall under a different classification.
Typical car low beam applications are, two low beam, two running lights and two fog lights if equipped. High beam applications are four high beam (on older cars) and two running lights, all this hits the required six light limit.
That also helps explain why the OE’s shut the fog lights off when the high beams are turned on.

I did find a couple of interesting NHTSA articles (complaints) about headlight glare, primarily concerning SUV vehicles which ride higher then Passenger cars and vehicles equipped with HID headlights.
      http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/rulings/glare.html

I also learned this Major Requirement took place 1-1-1968, there have been a few revision since then. What I could not find is what the requirement was before this date. This information would help explain why vehicles built before 1968 shut off the front running lights when the headlights are turned on.

If anyone knows what the law was prior to 1968 can you post it please?
      Thank you
