DSE coil over Kit for stock subframe

Has anyone used this front coil over kit from Detroit Speed on a first gen Camaro?

Any opinions or did you use them? Thanks!

      I have installed it.

Overall the shocks are great quality. They are stiff, but adjustable and soften up a bit (I have the single adjustable version). Also you need to run a tubular DSE Control arm or similar. I have installed the setup twice. Once on a subframe outside of my car and on my subframe in the car.

Basically I pulled it off one frame and installed on my current subframe. I will switch to ridetech as my next setup with my LS3 swap. Nothing wrong with the DSE setup, just want to try out the ridetech coil-over setup.

I ran into a few issues on both frames. One issue can be searched for here on the forums. https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/...tall-Questions

The second time I installed it install went better, but a bit of a pain to trim the coil pocket under the car. I used a body saw. For the top 1" hole I used a 1" drill bit, I tried to use a step bit but I was not able to get a drill and step bit close enough to drill the hole when the subframe was in the car. Outside of the car it's not an issue.

Also after install it makes it more difficult to go back to a standard shock. You have to weld up the 1" hole. When I installed the ridetech coilover on my other subframe I had to fix this.

My last comment is the rear shock... There is no JRi rear shock available from DSE for a stock setup. You can use Koni or similar. I would have to say that is my biggest disappointment. DSE sells a afco DSE tuned shock, but for minitubs. I ended up purchasing the DSE shocks and picked up an adapter and made it work with the stock location. I did call JRi about building me a shock to match the DSE front shocks, but it was going to be about 700 a shock and just said forget it and made the rear DSE shock work.

      Adding some pictures:

Forgot to add, I ran the stock spindle with tall ball joints and a Kore 3 hub, then switched to the ATS spindle. Mostly to see if I like how it feels vs stock spindle with tall ball joints. ( I felt no difference for street driving, but noticed a small difference once I started pushing the car around the corners ). If you use a lowered spindle it will get to low... It already has a built in 2" or so drop, so it's better to run a stock spindle. When I added the ATS spindle i had the adjuster about half way up the shock body. I added a Global west spacer to help keep the adjuster lower. Makes it easier to lower or raise the car, but really not needed. Luckily there is still enough travel so I am not bottoming out the shock. The ATS spindle does add an addition 7/8" drop.

Make sure it will ship ASAP. I ordered the detroit speed kit 2 for my camaro in September from Jegs and they told me two days ago that they had no idea when it would ship. First ship date was October, then Dec, then Jan, now have no idea. I cancelled the order.

I also had a shipping issue, but nowhere near your experience with DSE. Order a replacement wiper seal and arm for my DSE wiper motor, it took 3 weeks. They said it was due to a computer systems change over after the Holley take over.
