Another cool member project at Prodigy

Our member Blaster 11 dragged his 68 Pro Tour Firebird form Maryland to Prodigy for sheetmetal, body and paint. Attached is the Kris Horton rendering. It is a cool piece receiving the pro touring treatment including speedtech arms, Unisteer, 17 Budnik's, LTI, etc. Some cool styling ideas Include a 69 Trans Am hood, 69 Trans Am stripes in white, with a tiny black pinstripe on the edge of the white stripe to pull the Houndstooth interior and exterior together. Original plans had the car going burnt orange and black stripes, but a 11th hour change has it going a very close shade to the original Tahoe Turquoise. With all the Orange cars being built right now, I personally am thrilled to see a unique color combo.

Bruce is planing on doing Hot Rod Power Tour with us. Bruce will be doing the assembly himself after we give him the painted inside, out and under roller. So look for us to pop this one quick to give him plenty of time to finish.

I will put some pics up soon, the rendering is a bit teally (is that a word). We are trying to get Kris a color chip so he can nail the color. This gives the basic effect though. Here's the rendering

We did buy the hood last week, Parts Place sells them. We already have the car naked and the quarters off. I'll see if I can get some pics tomorrow.

      Firebird pictures

Here is a picture of the Firebird when I picked it up from the owner who bought the car new and also one how it looked when I delivered it to Frank. I am hoping to get the car done for Power Tour 06, that means I will be eating a lot of ramen and drinking a lot of tea. The good thing is I have been stockpiling parts every since I found this board so I have most things stacked up. I am afraid of the details that I have missed which are going to burn time at the end. As Frank said the Bird will have a warmed up LT1 with a LE2 head/cam package from Lloyd Elliot and a T56 with with associated components from ATS. Originally I was going to run a 4L60E but I like to row gears so I found a used T56 on the site. Outback I will be running a Pontiac 10 bolt (how long is unsure) with 3.90 gears so it should be a lot of fun. I have had many driver quality cars over the years but never really finished one so I hope I can do it.

      Thanks,

      Bruce

Very cool! Love the color! I'd really like to see some pontiac power under the hood though.

Johnny: I would have liked to kept Poncho power under the hood but the OHC three on the tree combo had to go. Maybe if I have another Bird I will try building a FI Poncho. This has been my only Pontiac that I have strayed from the others all had 400's or 455's. I think the color will look killer, thanks.

Just a thought, Have you looked at painting the chrome bumper the same as the color of the car? I wonder if that would make the front of the car flow better? Very nice color combo. Different!

Roger, One of the first renderings Kris had done was with a colored nose. I thought it made look like a GTO and took away the bird personality.

Dropit69, The first picture is the way I purchased it form grandma and grandpa. They sure told me some stories about how they taught all three daughters to drive in it. I sure enjoyed talking to an original owner, first time for me, usually the 20th owner, several motors, and a lot of hacked wiring lol.

      Thanks for the comments,

      Bruce

I'm glad to see another Firebird too! Can't wait to see the progress pictures. If you change your mind on the engine, I've got details of how to FI a poncho on my site.

Cool! Another Firebird. I'll have to see if I can stop by Frank's and check it out. Does the hood have the steel frame or all fiberglass?

One of these days I'm hoping to drag my 69 vert over to Frank as well.
