Automatic to Manual
Hello, I own a 1968 Camaro with an automatic transmission. I have the console on the floor with the horseshoe shifter, etc. However, I would like to convert the car to manual. I have two questions. How cheap could I accomplish the goal? How difficuilt would it be? What do you reccomend? I really want to drive manual but dont want to break my wallet. I was also wondering is there a setup i could install with a clutch that would give the shiffting effect? Like a shift kit, or is that something different. I dont mean like BN&M but something differnt.Thank You

12-30-2005 #2There is nothing like shifting a muscle car in my opinion. I just swapped out my TH350 for a Muncie 4 speed. If you have some the parts needed for the swap - it helps. Otherwise, you will need to come up with a clutch / brake pedal assembly (including all of the linkage), the tranny, clutch, pressure plate,TO bearing, new flywheel, bellhousing, etc. I thought I got by fairly cheap with mine and I am estimating it cost me around $1600 +/-. If you do go this route, don't be cheap with your bellhousing. Since you'll probably have to buy one anyway, go with the Mcleod or Lakewood explosion proof. The clutch rotating assembly is right by your feet and the little extra money spent up front could save a leg later.

smittys69, is correct unless you have a complete donor car it gets quite expensive fast. i have probably spent a little less but thats because i got the trans free, and some of our great board members have gaven me good deals on some of the parts.
