      Bird update

      Well, My plans have changed, again. Actually, I am back to my first engine plan.


      I had wanted to put an OHC six back in the car, as it came from the factory. But I gave that idea up, after finding how hard they are to find. Then my dad calls me today, and a family member of ours, who owns a junkyard, just got in a complete 1968 Tempest, with thje factory OHC 6 sprint package, 3 speed with hurst shifter, and lots of other stuff. Looks like we will gbe getting the car, yanking the motor, and either parting the car, or selling it whole.


      OHC Six here we come! And she won't be stock either! Now there's your PT motor!

      Oh, yeah, I'm really psyiced about the six! Ported head, big cam, header, and 3 2 barel rochesters! With a 5 speed!

      Just sighed up the other day. Been talking with the guys at pmi about building a wicked big cammed OHC. That really turn the heads at the cruize ins!

      the ohc's are nice motors and can make some good power when turboed. My dad has a 66 tempest sprint & 2 spare single barrel engines. I had a sprint cloan in my 67 firebird, but it is in the middle of an LS1 transplant. LS1's are awsome motors and the car was no where near original so i don't feel bad about the swap. The biggest thing i found at car shows was the look on peoples faces when they were expecting to see a V8 under the hood. My 67 got more attention b/c of the ohc than much nicer 400 birds. Sounds like a cool project, just do your research on the valve train before you go crazy with the cam size. The geometry will be hard to maintain & you will end up doing a fair amount of valve stem grinding.

      I agree, the six will look unique. There is someone on this board with one that has six webers attached to a custom intake. It looks awesome. Good luck!

      Yeah, I am really pshyced about this! Been talking with the guys at PMI already.

      Right now, it looks like a rebuild with forged pistons 9.4:1.
      Stage II cam,

      Ported head, stage 2 valvetrain

      Sigma6 header.

      Probably run the stock single 4 on a ported intake, but looking into a 3 2barrel set up, for visual effect!

      Should be 300-325 hp, and that oh so unique inline sound!

      I knew a guy who had a Tempest with the Sprint package thay really made some good power. It would be really cool to see what it would be like with an Electromitive EFI setup on it? It would look compltely different than anything out there espaecially if it was turboed or supercharged. You could do so many different things in stages and still be completely differnet all of the time.

      Goodluck on keeping it together and always buy spare parts when you find them.

      Its about 200lbs lighter than a pontiac v8!

      The guys at PMI are working on intakes now for intercolled M-90 blowers! A couple guys have turbo'd them as well.

      I am not sure I wanna go that radical tough. I want to go bracket racing full time in the next 2 years or so, so I don't want to make this car too crazy. But you all know how that goes!

      Thinking about 2 webers, but at the price of those, I could probably go blown, hmmm..... blown inline, .....

      It's nice to see these engines being supported by the aftermarket. I once knew someone with an OHC Firebird with a three speed. That thing would go!. I wonder how long it will take the aftermarket to start casting these blocks and heads again?

      I don't see that happening. So far only one or two companies are supporting them. Others did in the past.

      The following is still small. There are less than 500 members on the ohc forum.

      They are cool though, and there are some bad ones being built!

      In my opinion when I think of the first Pro touring contest I think of the Car Crafts Real Street Eliminators. Before they stoped running the contest the first time there was one engine that was un-beatable. In fact I think it won 3 years in a row. Does anyone remeber what it was? I'll give you a hint. GN.

      The turbo charged 3.8L V6 was light, tones of power and could get incredible gas milage. I still think this is one of the coolest contest out there. Power, handling, gas milage and looks.

      I'm a die hard pontiac fan so this is why I love the OHC 6.
