      Pro touring suburban?

Lots of awesome trucks on here. Anyone built a suburban? Pre -72. Thanks.

I have a '72, but its definitely not "Pro-Touring".....more my daily driver, parts hauler, camper, etc.

      '72 2wd C20. 6.0L LS, 4L65E, Holley Terminator.

Thanks....its been a really good daily for the last 7 years now. I really wish there was an equivalent forum for modified vintage trucks geared more towards off-road/overlanding type builds. I apply a lot of the stuff I've learned here to my truck but obviously the suspension type stuff doesn't translate.

You might look at https://forum.ih8mud.com/ , they come up a lot when I'm searching out technical issues for my own truck. They seem to know what they're talking about and cover suspensions from stock to Bigfoot.

Your Burb looks outstanding, but were it mine I'd convert to the GMC grill, just for the 4 headlight system. 4 individually aimable headlights work a lot better than the 2 bulb setup.

They're obviously much brighter than factory, but if you look closely, also have an amber LED in the bottom that works as a turn signal. This will allow me to mount two 6" light bars from Dynamic Diodes in the factory turn signal cut outs.

Running the GMC grille would be one option, but personally I prefer the look of the factory Chevy grille.

Wow, Nice Suburban! I’ve got a similar pair of LED light bars hidden in the grill of my F-250 and they’ll turn darkness into daylight with the flip of a switch!

Thanks, eventually the plan is to pull the body off the frame, blast from the lower metal trim line down to address all the rust/bondo that's in the lower quarters, and convert it to a 4wd set up while the body is off the frame. This will allow me to fix the rust without doing a full repaint as I like where it is....nice enough from 10 feet, but not nice enough that I worry about driving it. For the 4wd conversion, Ill probably retain the trailing arm and coil set up in the rear for ride quality, and convert the front to another Dana 60 on leafs, along with a divorced NP205 so that I can retain the stg 2 4L65E I'm currently running. The goal is not to turn this thing into a rock crawler or anything, just make it a little more capable off road so that I can go camping in a few more out of the way places.

The Roadster Shop built an amazing 66 Suburban several years back. Here is the build:

Very nice. I guess the sealed beam LED replacements make the 4 headlight system not necessary then. I like that.

If you haven't been there before, the expedition portal forum is geared towards overlanding vehicles and adventures. It covers all types of vehicles but if you're into that type of activity you'll like it.
