      15's or 17's

I have a set of 17 x 9.5 tt'2s rear and 17 x 7 front. with BFG's. I want to change my tires and wheels but not sure what size to go with. Car will lowered about an 1'' to 2'' in rear, front is lowered by hotchkins springs. I want the car to sit down over the tire in rear.(I won't mind trimming outside lip, no mini-tub).
Choices- samesize as I have above. or 15x8 wheel w/275/60 tire-rear and 15x6 front w/235 tire up front. Pictures of both ways would be a huge help.
Just can't seem to make up my mind.

What kind of brakes do you have? 15" wheels won't clear many disk brake setups.

I agree with the 17s. The 15s may slightly better straight line traction, but the 17s will outperform the 15s when the road gets twisty.

If your Wilwoods have more than about an 11" rotor, it's unlikely they'll fit in a 15" wheel.

Additionally, 275/60/15 has some serious sidewall bulge - I've got some 15" 275/50/15s on a 15x9.5 that I can't even fit in the wheelwells of my 65 and it's specifically because of the bulge. The 275/40/17s I've got now don't have anywhere near the bulge and fit much better.

You wouldn't say that if you saw the car we tested last week.. 15" steelies running Wilwood brakes (12.19" rotors, 4-piston dynalites)..

Best handling car we have EVER tested.. fastest ever through the cones and killed the skid pad..

Then again he had killer tires.. but still, you have to find it ironic that the best handling car in the history of several magazines was running steel 15-inch wheels.. lol

Now go and put some 20s and see what happens. Mmmm, form over function.

id go with the 17's on this. in my opinion 17's with 40 series tires is a good compromise between too much tire and not enough rim.

Yep, it belongs to a board member here at the site.. and it is the fastest car every tested by PHR and most likely by Super Chevy, CHP and others..

What's with the "my eyes" comment? I think it's cool looking and at least not another "cookie cutter" car.

precisely why ive decided to stick with 15" wheels and a 12" corvette rotor instead of the 13". ride quality AND handling. along with wheels i already own. gotta love it.

LOL, should be obvious when talking about a Mustang II, but I have to admit that's the best looking one I've seen...

Yes, but looking at it another way, this owner went the plus two route.

The Mustang IIs came with 13" rims. Since the Boss stangs came with 15s, this would be equivalent to putting 17s on a 69.

We need a little more info here,Steve. Was that 15" race rubber on the car? How much does that car weigh? So much for the idea that you need big wheels and a high-zoot suspension for superior handling. :rolleyes5
Sounds like I need to bring my Ariel Atom to one of your tests. It would absolutely kill that Mustang II.

Shh.. I'm not supposed to say anything about it since it's coming out in the April issue (the same issue as Bob Johnsons Cuda).. But I will take a few guesses from memory

Toyo R compound tires.. DOT legal

Think the weight was around 2950lbs or so..

You might beat the Mustang II but I don't know if you would kill it since the numbers were so damn good.. ya never know though. lol

So,Toyo is now making some good DOT 15" tires, huh.
I was expecting a much lighter car. That thing must be very well sorted out. It's not still running a Mustang II-based IFS,is it?
