Car Shows.

I entered a local car show a couple of weeks ago that a local car club was putting on. While I was sitting there another entrant came up and started talking about one thing after another and the conversation led to the fact that the local car shows don't give out big trophies or have different classes. Most get a participation plaque with a picture of their car. I went on to tell him that the whole concept of those kind of car shows were fund raisers for various organizations. He proceeded to tell me that he felt slightly cheated that he didn't get much for his $25 entry fee. I told him again, it is a fund raiser, the money he gave them went to different organizations like the Miracle Children's League (who's lot we were on), and other very worth while things. I also told him that the main reasons people enter these kind of car shows is to just show off their automobiles, camaraderie, and just a decent time all around. I then told him that a guy, his wife, and two small daughters came by and was bragging on my car. The two daughters stood by the car an wanted their dad to take their pictures. I told "dad" to put the girls in the front seat and let them look out the window. He was hesitant at first, but after I told him I had a three year old grandson that is in it all the time he let the girls get in and take their pictures. The guy I was talking to eventually left, I'm sure thinkin how Ignorant I was for letting this happen let alone why anyone would bring their car out to a car show like this. My thoughts? Life goes on big guy....

People get spooled up over car shows for some reason. Show up, have a good time, talk to folks and then head home.

Don't get a parking trophy? Who cares?!
Don't like being people asking about your car? Stay home!

We go to shows to enjoy the audience, check out some other cars, let my kids run around and enjoy. Everything else is secondary.

Trophy hunters annoy me.

I don't like car shows. Most are too long. I do 1 or 2 a year usually for a good charity or I'd it's an interesting show. I'll take a nice cruise night or cars and coffee.

I do two local shows a year because I like the charity. I would rather spend the time cruising.

I love being able to do this! Very rewarding to make someone's day by letting them enjoy your car for a bit!

I am really glad to know I'm not the only one that feels this way. We don't have many (if any) cruises around here. There is a fairly large Corvette club here in Jonesboro that does a lot of things around here. I personally know quite a few of these folks therefore I usually get invited to attend their outings. Once a month they go as a group (not everyone, everytime) to different places to eat. Almost all the time out of town. So they cruise to eat dinner. Once a month they travel from here to Eureka Springs for a big Corvette meet and spend the biggest part of a week. Since I'm Camaro, I don't go to those....

But still I like doing the occasional car show and meeting people.

This topic has been on my mind. I went to an all day show for the first time in years a month ago. They had a lot of stuff for my kids to do (bounce house, paint pumpkins, eat food, etc.), and I thought it was great. If there was a trophy for dirtiest car I believe I would have won, but we had a great time.

I had forgotten about all of the silly things that the regulars do (cry-baby dolls, t-shirts with a picture of your car on it, color coordinated chairs, hand lettered sign with cliché phrase on it). I love the cars and coffee format so much more. Dynamic events (auto-x, track day, color cruise, etc.) are even better.

The exception I will make is the weekend long shows with tons of stuff going on. I really enjoy the goodguys shows, and I miss Car Craft Summer Nationals (burn-out contest, bikini contest, auto-x, dyno challenge, live music, etc.).

I tend to avoid car shows, but I do enjoy events like Cars and Coffee.
