I am guessing you have large pocket books to do that!

Where I work we jsut got our license to do that type work.

Last year the company purchases another that had their license. Several millions had to exchange hands though. Think company is Avborne in Florida.

Repair Station Liscenes are not transferrable between ownerships. You would have to reapply for another liscense. I am a Airframe & Powerplant mechanic and I also build ceritified wood propellers for vintage aircraft. What kind of a business are you looking to buy?

Hey Mike, how hard was it to get your A&P? I was a jet engine mechanic in the USAF for 6 years until I got out in June of this year. Worked Pratt & Whitney fighter engines the whole time. I've been tossing around the idea of getting my A&P at some point.

What are your main service contracts? Where is it? I have three soon-to-be retired Navy mechs working for/with me (we build cars together).

Hey Bill, if ya crashed and walked away; That was just a rough landing, get back in the 172 and go Flying!! I have crashed ten or eleven cars, I still drive, I have no idea how many spills I had on motorcycles? I still ride? I have had the crap scared out of me,on windy days, nothing serious yet. But I still Fly!

      General avaiation is the best!

flyboy, its not that hard. 18 months at embry riddle did it for me. there were alot of navy guys there when i was. apparently you can use some of your experience to maybe get out of some of the course work, but the regs are pretty strict. and not that im picking on you but most of those guys who spent their tour of duty as jet mechanics didnt know a damn thing when it came to GA and commercial

I got my A&P after high school, worked for 3 airlines over about 8 years,
The industry is good, but I kept getting layed off. The free flying is a plus.

The military guys are trained to know military; that's no secret! If you went to work for Conti, they aren't going to teach you how to R&R a TF404. That's the actual shock that most guys go through after some time in a military-technical field; you learn enough to do your job, and that's it (as there are many other things to remember).

Still- Give me a motivated, proactive P/C or Flight Engineer & I'll bet they'd be any jet mechs equal (training for training).

Are you selling a facility, or buying one?

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

I would suggest calling the local Flight Standards District Office that deals with that repair station and ask them what needs to happen to keep the change over simple. It can be very easy to do something out of order and end up having to get the repair station reapproved which you DO NOT want to get into. Make sure the business you are buying is very rooted in the industry as many aviation businesses flucuate with the economy. Good luck.
