      Proper wheel width

I've decided on the tire sizes for my car (335/30/18 and 315/30/18). Getting ready to order some Forgelines for it, and I'm curious about wheel widths. For instance, the 315 tire will fit a wheel from 10.5" - 11.5", per the manufacturer. For a street car that will see a lot of track time, what is the "best" wheel width? I've been told to go with the widest wheel possible, but don't really understand the reasons. Don't know if it's important or not, but if I had to pick between ride comfort and performance, I'd lean towards the latter.

      TIA

In my opinion, the best is to match the tire manufacturers measured wheel width.
The 315 Rival states the measured rim width is 11”, so I’d go with that.

The 335 doesn’t appear to say it on TireRacks site, but the range is 11.5-12.5 so 12” in this case... that’s what we always run with 335’s as well.
You definitely don’t want to go on the narrow side of that range, especially on a rival. They are a little wider/more square than other tires, so wider is better.
Meaning, you could still mount an 11” on a 335 but it would be pulled way in.

Thanks Dale, that's a huge help. Figured the middle of the range was probably right, but thanks for confirming!

I would agree with Dale, 18x11 and 18x12 with the 315/30 and 335/30 BFG
