      68 Camaro Update - Sandblasted

Hello all, Here are some pictures.

Here is a quick update. I got the camaro back from the shop last week. I had it sand blasted at Myers Sandblasting in Oakland. Then I took it to a body shop to be epoxy-primered. No body work done yet, but ready for fabrication. I was very pleased at the lack of rust. The body was in great shape. Just got lucky I guess.

WOW! Looks like you have a great foundation to start with. What are your plans for the build? Keep us posted.

Hi Rocketrod...yeah. I got real lucky with this car. I was afraid I'd have half a car left when I got it from the sand blasters, but it was in real good shape.

The build...well, I learn as I go, but I want to implement some of the great suspension mods that are available now, or in the near future. A three link? I am going with a new front subframe, but I am not sure which one. Something that will allow me to run a decent sized tire on the front. I have the DSE Mini-tub kit. That is the next project. Twin-turbo LS1? Pro charged 383? I'm not sure. I do have a great, clearanced 350 block that has never been re-built.

      Definitely manual.

      How was the service?

I was curious how Myers treated you and what the cost was for the blast job, if you don't mind me asking. A friend of mine has his GTO over there now and they are really giving him the runaround. He set an appointment date to have his GTO blasted and the day has come and gone with no progress on their part. To top it off, they have left the car outside in the rain for 3 weeks and you can just imagine what water has done to the body. If this is how they do business I would rather take my cars somewhere else. Joe

      Hello CRCRFT78,

I was actually very saticfied with the service. They charged 750.00, and blasted everything down to the bare metal. Of course, I was not on a real timeline, and did not mind the car being there for a while. I talked to a couple others before taking my car there, and one guy said it was really the only place to go for cars. My experience was positive, I may have been lucky.

      Best,

      Michael

was that his GTO? Cool, Yeah Jose is real busy and right now its a 4 week wait. I was just over there trying to get parts in the door before they closed them. My friend had his 67 Mustang there for 3 weeks and it rained the day we picked it up. it helps to speak spanish too.

Looks good Gurney, man they didn't mess around with the primer did they? Where did you go for that? Maaco?

Its good to know that you had a pleasant experience dealing with them. I actually don't know what my friends schedule is like for the GTO. I do know that he isn't thrilled to have set a date and then have to wait all this time. Quality of work will speak for itself though. I didn't want to pass judgement to fast on Myers. I've actually had my convertible blasted twice in two seprate locations and once again it will need to be blasted because of the poor quality of work. I don't want to go through that again.

      Hi Mr. Quick,

I actually got it epoxy-primered right around the corner at "Budget Fleet". They mostly do big insurance work (trucks and busses), but Robert Sr. primered my car for 700 bucks. Two coats. He'll complain the entire time about how he almost lost his shirt on the deal, but then he will do an excellent job. Even under the dash was completely sprayed. The only areas I could notice that were missed were areas that were covered (between the body bushing and subframe for example). But even the front springs were completely coated.
