1970 Firebird future barn find
Ive had this car awhile and haven't really torn into it too much until lately. Progress the past two months has been significant and I'm holding myself to a deadline of having it on the road, probably without interior, by July. Ive owned a ton of 2nd gen Firebirds, mostly Smokey and the Bandit cars and clones. I always hated the early front ends. I also hate green, but I ran across this car on Craigslist and it stuck. The guy didn't really want to sell, wanted to trade but didn't know what he wanted, and he didn't really have a price he just wanted someone to make an offer and never came to a deal. Six months later I came up with a '55 210 and a side by side he wanted and got the car and $2500. It was a Espirit, 350 with ac, ps, pb, and a vinyl top. The week after I got it home I sold a '64 Bonneville on eBay and the motor let go while loading it on the transport truck. I called the guy and told him I had another motor. I pulled an all nighter putting the 350 from the Firebird in the Bonneville. That was 5 years ago. This will be my daily driver, so I wanted to go LS. My vision for the car is to look like a semi pro touring car that will be a barn find in 30 years. It has a t56 and is getting a turbo, I'm going PTFB on the front and probably just Caltracs on the rear. I started by tearing the front end apart and fully welding and plating the subframe.
The car had been hit on the lh side, thank god the guy already removed the top and primed it, and the front fenders were junk. I put a new quarter on it and lh door skin. The floors and trunk were perfect. The bodywork is pretty much done other than some work on the formula hood I picked up for $100 because it had a corner missing. I manage a body shop and we do spray in bedliner. I masked the car off like no bodies business and did a real light coat of bedliner on the trunk and floor boards. It was overkill, but I figured it pretty closely matches lizard skin. Ive been epoxying the car and following it with some red oxide 2k primer I found, but I am not real impressed with the "red oxide". I'm leaning towards single staging the car as I live down gravel and I'm planning on beating on this thing pretty hard.

04-16-2018 #2I originally built some junk yard idk engine but sold it and bought a l33, put ls3 accessories on it, pac 1218 springs, a trick flow 600 lift cam, LS6 intake, welded a bung on the timing cover for an oil drain, and swapped in a f body oil pan. I spend last weekend cleaning up the wiring and making it a stand alone unit.
