      attention LS swap chevelles/A bodies

ok so still at the drawing board... went n visited a custom ls swap shop, got some info..

he told me he's done tons of ls swaps, and he only ever use BRP hotrod stuff... as he knows its quality and it all fits with
      one another...
      drive line angles etc etc...

hes made a valid point as to source parts from vendors individually and then hope they work with one another...
      hence, cheaping out.

my request for help is this..

for the guys who have done A body swaps... did u mismatch parts? or use one vendor/kit...

tell me the pains n pleasures ....

after speaking to this guy im leaning back to the ls side... he **** talked bbc and fitech and old tech, mileage blah blah...

im such a mess with this...lol

thx for putting up with me

I highly recommend the Holley kit. I used it on my G-body, just a smaller version of your car. It worked fine with a set of cheap EBAY long tube headers too.

Holley has everything you need. We've mismatched parts before, such as getting a trans crossmember from the place that you buy the trans from (T56 etc). On the A-body there is more wiggle room for that stuff.
Andrew B will come on here shortly & tell you that you need a CV driveshaft which will eliminate the possibility of any driveline vibration. They're a good investment if it fits the budget.

We're a Holley dealer if you need a quote. They're running a sale right now, & prices will increase 12-1-17.

I could not agree more. I see it happen all the time where people start collecting this odd part and that odd part because it is on sale or was a cheap ebay sale. Once they start assembling these oddball parts they realize the parts don't play well together and now they have to buy more parts or fabricate parts to make the system work. IMO, price should never be a primary consideration when buying parts for a project. Source parts from one manufacturer and you have no surprises when the assembly phase begins. A complete LS install kit from Holley, for example, ensures the project will not run into unnecessary snags once assembly begins. This single source philosophy also applies to buying aftermarket suspensions as well.

I bought all of my stuff from edlebrock to avoid the pain you are describing. I still had that pain. Not clear if it's because my frame isn't straight, or because their product had issues.

Along the way I talked with the design engineer, and some of the design targets seemed strange to me (such as no particular transmission in mind for the swap).

I typically follow this philosophy. I think the holley stuff is really good and for a fair price, But I refused to pay $1200 for a pair of their swap headers. With some help from my 2lb precision motivational hammer I was able to get some $200 stainless flea-bay headers to work. Just needed to dimple the primary on the passenger side at the upper control arm, and the driver side low on the 3rd tube by the LCA mount. The only disappointment with their system was that the pan was made in China.

Here's what I can tell you. Muscle rods is in my back yard and I have known Phil Brewer for 20 years. They have a car for every kit they make. They install the engine and transmission in every car and Hustler Headers builds the headers to their mounts. Jeff and Nick are a wealth of knowledge in the LS swap field. My 2 cents for a hassle free install buy their product.

I used the Holley swap kit, exhaust and all in my 67. It all bolted in and fit exactly as described. I know this to be true, as I did it myself... The only part they offered I didn't use was the trans crossmember, as I boxed my frame...

      Ok so...

Let’s say I follow the advice..
And use vendors who’s ls swap parts
WOrk well. Be it holley brp.

What are some of the specific
LS swap parts I need that I can use
      That are one offs/mismatch?
      Surely a rad/shroud won’t matter??
      EFI Tank?

      Thoughts?

I’m gonna take it up the bum on
The high end swap parts. Where can
I recoup a couple bucks elsewhere
      Is what I’m getting at.

I did mine with dirty dingo motor mount plates and a holley 302.2 oil pan with cheap ebay headers and it fit great. However I'm sure this is someting to be said for sticking with a kit.

There are universal aluminum radiators that can easily be used without the super expensive direct fit swap radiators. You can also save money by using OEM cooking fans. The C6 Corvette fan is good and cheap. The Ford Fusion fans also are great and can be had cheap in the junk yard. For fuel, you can modify the existing tank by using a 5th Gen Camaro fuel bucket and a few parts from VaporWerks. I'd personally use all of the Holley swap components. Their mount system uses the awesome 4th Gen Camaro engine mounts and custom frame stands. The kit also puts the engine as low as possible for proper driveline angles. This is a big concern with the LS swap, especially if the car is lowered in the back.
