      68 Mustang EFI Tank/Pump Research

      I'm in the early stages of planning out my fuel system for my build. The car is a 68 mustang being powered by a 408 windsor making approximately 450-500 tq/hp. I will be using Holley's Terminator EFI kit.
      The car will be used (primarily) for long haul road trips and spirited twisty road driving. I'd like to eventually try my hand at autocross but, again, not the primary purpose of the build.

      I've looked at various different pump and tank options. When i shared my build info with Aeromotive, they suggested i go full on fuel cell to cover my autocross interest.
      I know that there are other options as well, such as Rick's Tanks...both the stainless and maybe even the upcoming Restomod version (not currently listed for the early mustang.) I'm also interested in the 22gal tanks,inc option from the 69/70 mustang for the additional capacity.

      I'm hoping to get some more suggestions or ideas. I've read good and bad things about tanks,inc pumps being loud, leaking, etc. I've read other good and bad about Aeromotive being easy to starve below a certain fuel level. I know Holley has their in tank pumps available as an option too. I've even received the suggestion of a GM style pump assembly fitted to the tanks,inc tank.

      I know there are a myriad of ways to attack this. I just want to be armed with enough information so I can make an informed decision. I know that there are $1500 options out there, but is that what I *need*?
      I'll spend money once to do it right, but I don't want to always feel like i overspent out of an overabundance of caution....it's a fine line to walk......damned budgets!

      What are your thoughts? What do you shop guys do when you've got a guy that wants to fill a need but doesn't have tons of money to throw at it?

      If I was to do it over with my Cougar, I would use a new style GM drop in module in a stock tank.

      For what it's worth, I installed the Sniper EFI onto my brother-in-law's 66 mustang after doing a V8 conversion. We installed Holley's retrofit returnless style fuel pump into a stainless 70 mustang reproduction tank because we didn't want to have to run the extra return line to the trunk. It's been great so far (only put ~1000 miles) and doesn't starve for fuel at low tank levels (~2-3 gallons left) that I've noticed. I've also installed the vaporworx (uses 5th gen Camaro pump) system in my brother's 66 c10 and that system I have ran almost completely dry (<1" of fuel at the bottom of the tank) with no signs of fuel starvation. I love the system, but not so much the price. If budget is a concern I'd definitely look at the holley pump. The hydromat they attach to the inlet of the pump really seems to work wonders since there is no baffling in the 70 mustang tank we're using.

      I did what Andrew mentioned. I bought the mounting ring from Carl at vaporworx and mounted a GM drop in module in my stock tank. For the record I also got his pwm controller although it is not necessary.
      This has be an amazing setup, never a starvation problem even with a 1/8 of tank and going around a round about several times.
      My engine is a SBC 525 horsepower with pretty much the same goals as yours except the auto cross part.
      I cant say enough about my setup.

      I appreciate all of the input. I've started to research the possibility of using a 4th gen f-body pump assembly in a 22 gallon tank. It fits the height closer (4th gen is 9-11", 5th is 5-7" and the 22gal tank is ~ 9.75").
      The 4th will also allow me to run the return without much work vs setting up the pwm system for the 5th.

      I still like the holley pump with hydramat setup as well, but I'm looking at all of my available options. Either way, Mike H would love to make sparks on a shiny new part for my car....I think he lives for that.
