      Remote Oil Filter Adapter

Alright I need to pick someones brain here. I am plumbing for a remote oil filter adapter and have purchased one of the billet adapters that require what I call a big center port filter not the standard GM filter size, this is the size that I think the FRAM HP 6 has (I'm not using the fram filter) but it comes complete with a new Black Wix racing filter. On the Wix filter it says caution not for street use. Anyone know why these aren't recommended for street use. Am I going to be forced to run one of the cheap standard size GM / Ford size adapters .
      Thanks for the help guys!!!!!!

Don't know exactly, could be that it doesn't allow for bypass when the engine is cold?

      Remote Oil Filter Adapter

      Thanks James
I was thinking the no bypass issue would come into play on the adapter itself. unlike the block mounted adapter on GM , this caution message is on the filter, do filters have an internal bypass also

Don't know for sure. I'd call the filter manufacturer and ask then why they don't recommend that particular filter for street use.

I believe the ford filters do. Fram PH8?? That is the one that is usually recommended with the adapter plates.

It does not have an integral bypasss valve which is bad news if the filter or system ever gets clogged. The filter will basically burst from over pressurizing, that is why these types of filters are built with minimum brust pressures of 500psi or more.

There is no reason that you could not run this type of filter. I have run them on many street chassis as well as the Fram HP series filters and the K&N filters. There is nothing wrong with the Fram HP6 filters on the adapter either..... so there isnt any reason that I could think of as to why you cant run something other than the standard GM sizes.

BTW, the Delco filters are still one of the best filters in a standard size..... and they do just thes same as all the rest, they just dont have the capacity of the, obviously larger, type of cans.

      Remote Oil Filter Adapter

      Chicane,
That is pretty much what I was thinking, I know the filter (Wix # 51268R) will be changed with relative frequency so hopefully it wont be an issue of clogged filters. I know there have been times where people block off the factory bypass adapter (GM) forcing the oil thru the filter and not bypassing and I looked at this the same way as the remote adapter as it has no bypass built into it either. Since I already have the setup I'm going to install it and look for any "weird things" to happen when I prime up the system.
      Thanks all for the input
      Jack
