Inspect your cars on a regular schedule!!!

I do an annual inspection on my car each year, and put hands on every bolt. I have also marked each bolt with a marker for a turn indicator. I put the car up tonight and was under it for three minutes and found my first issue. Be sure to inspect your cars folks!

Always a good thing to do. As I go over a car that I plan to REALLY drive hard and drive daily, I also safety wire every possible thing along the way. There are WAY too many amateurs now doing auto-x and road racing events that are not doing basic safety wire on stuff, blows my mind.

I was going over my car doing just this, inspecting for loose bolt etc when I found both front lower shock mounts broken.

there is way to much weight placed on the trunion turned sideways!! you can have a double shear mount welded in and would be WAY safer!

That's bad engineering. The trunion is not supposed to be mounted sideways. All the load is on the one little tab, not across the whole shaft, as it was designed to be.

I am pretty sure they broke because I bottomed out the shocks, ride height was too low. Also the new mounts I purchased are much
      thicker.

These are AJE control arms $500 for the pair, I am not 100% happy with the way they are made....

You may have bottomed out the shocks, but that does not change the fact that the lower shock mounts are improperly designed.

Agreed, that's the ****tiest design I've ever seen for that purpose.

Oh wow, those 2 3/8" (?) bolts are holding the entire weight of the car in single shear only? Not good! Toss them! Not sure why they'd do it like that, there seems to be plenty of room to run the lower mount horizontally? Or don't toss them... if you have fab skills, it doesn't look hard to modify them to work properly.

Those coil overs need to be mounted in a double shear, ASAP. Those trunions are not made to mount the coil over like that. With some 1/4" angle you could make that lower arm set up for a double shear bearing mount.

Looks like needs solid bolt on block with trunion sitting on top, kind of like an L shape with counter sunk bolts into the arm.

I inspected my camaro after a 1200 mile trip to and around the tail of the dragon in NC. Found 3 very loose bolts in the front musclebar sway bar, and a few other loose suspension bolts. Seems most things I hadn't used a torque wrench on (as the instructions didn't spec a value) had worked themselves loose. And I usually use blue locktite.

      Thanks for the good suggestion!
