      69' Firebird wheel tire fitment

I know I know this topic has been beaten to death time and time again. I have spent the last week searching everything and have found a good start for what I want to achieve, but I will need help before I pull the trigger on a new set of wheels and rubber.

I have a 69' Firebird with all stock suspension. My goal is to achieve a vintage Trans Am look without a mini-tub setup. I plan on rolling the fenders but only within the boundaries as to not disturb the paint work. I am also prepared to move the rear shocks inboard.

Can anyone tell me what the maximum size 15" wheel and tire combo I can put on front and rear and offset? I would really love a 295-60 15x10 on the rear but have found mixed opinions on whether or not it will fit.

Again I am sorry that I am asking on this topic, especially considering this is my first post here. Thank you for your insight!

275 is tight and you will have to nail the backspacing. Very doubtful you could get a 295 to fit.

looking some more I found someone claiming a 275 on a 15x9.5 with 5.5" bs is the max for a stock rear end 69'. I'm scratching my head here I just can't seem to find anything concrete. Thank you for your reply

I can tell you concretely that I ran a 275 tire on a10" rim with 5-7/8 backspacing with LS1 disc brakes and it was tight. No way I could have fit a 285 much less a 295 tire. And it was even a 69 Firebird, not that it makes much difference...

can anyone tell me what the specs are for this set up? It is easier for me to show you guys what I want the finished product to look like. On paper I keep telling myself I need bigger but visually this is exactly what I want.

Those trans-am cars ran on 15x9 wheels per the SCCA rules of the day with 5.00/11.30-15 front, (9 in tread) 600./12.30-15 rear, (11 in tread) tires. As for the maximum size 15" wheel you can fit you would be better off at Camaros.net. Those guys are experts on 70's high performance mods.

So searching the interwebs I have found that the 5.00/11.30-15 are what would now be a 275/50-15 and the 6.00/12.30-15 are a 315/50-15 that seems huge! someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I'm thinking 275-50 15x9.5 on the rear and xxx-50 15x8 on the front can anyone help fill in the blanks for me?
