LC9 DoD/AFM/VVTI Swap

Hi guys,

Time ago I bought from evilbay a 12k miles 2012 LC9/4l60 2wd from a 1500 Silverado.
I thought I was being lucky getting a like new engine hi-po engine with all the bells and whistles, what I assumed was positive.

BUT, and here’s the thing, when planning on using it on my swap, all that tech on my engine turned more into a problem than other, and to my better understanding if I wanted to use it I will need to change the cam, and delete DoD and AFM.



No need to say I don’t care that much about AFM and VVTI, it’s not like my car will see 20k miles a year... so a few extra mpg are nice but not necessary, what I do not want is to replace cam and/or any other parts, I just want to swap in an go!

I have not found any swap vendor offering a harness and ecu flash that will allow to use this engine without mods. Until, I checked on some jeep sites like http://jeepspeedshop.com they offer a plug and play crate engine and swap service (awfully expensive!) that will retain DoD/AFM/VVTI on the LC9 engine, and they offer the LC9 more expensive than any other 5.3 because of this same features and extra ponies.

I’m not willing to pay 22k for the swap (and I already got the engine and tranny btw) but this shed light on the possibility of getting a standalone harness and flash for my application.

Is there any one aware of this being available?
Is there any other drawback on using this drop out for an light duty 68 C10 swap application?
Any experience with this engine/tranny combo?

give them a call and they should be able to build you a harness / ecu setup that will control your setup. there are other venders as well that can do it. you will just have to call them and tell them what you are looking to do. the vvt is not a big deal but the dod lifters are known to have problems and fail at times. i would get remove the dod set just for that reason. and if you wanted you could add a cam if you choose to.

Do you think I NEED to replace cam and lifters?
I see literaly thousands of pickups with this engine, I will not be doing any heavy hauling or towing, just light duty cruising on 68 C10.

Also, can I just software delete DoD with a supertunner or equivalent and get rod of the problem or lifters should be replaced?

The lifters are not likely to explode under most normal usage. There are zillions of Gen IV engines on the road, with many, many miles to be successfully added. As for the computer, you will mainly just need to have a competent tuner remove VATS and the rear O2 sensors, and change a few other settings. The main issue hotrodders have with DOD and AFM is the lack of easy cam swap ability (there are some options, however). With a simple tune and very little wiring modification (given a good harness), you shouldn't have to change much at all.
