General rule of thumb from the converter people is 300 rpm higher than the bottom of your cam's power range. So, if you have a 2500-5500 rpm rated cam, then 2800 rpm stall. This is a little tough to pick unless you've had it dyno'd. MOST of the cams advertised are rated for the middle engine in the range -- meaning if it says Pontiac 326-455 - 2500-5500 rpm, then you could expect that power range out of a 400. Same cam in a 326 will range from maybe 3000-6000, in a 455 it might make power from 2000-5000.
