      Powder coat wheels? Brush? Both?

Trying to decide what to do with my old Boyd Coddington wheels. I'm really not a fan of them anymore and would prefer to get new ones but I don't have the funds right now to spend (just got the car painted about a year ago).

Thinking about powder coating either black or gun metal. Thinking a matte finish. Also thinking about brushing the lips.

      Thoughts?

I think if you do the centers dark and brush the lips it would look great. No a huge fan of the directional swirl spokes and the black/dark center would tone that down visually.

Nice car! I agree that you should go with a darker matte finish on the center of the wheels....maybe try to match the door handles. I would also put the same finish on the window trim and bumpers to give that coordinated "planned" look.

brush all the way. low to no maintenace. like others said powder coat centers. everything on my car is brushed(trim, bumpers, door handles, radiator etc). Best thing i ever did. No polishing, just a little brushing with a red scotchbrite every now and then

Thanks for the input guys. I'm definitely leaning toward a graphite or black center spoke and brushed lip. I'm also no longer a fan of the directional center spoke either and changing the color up would definitely revitalise the way I feel about the wheels.

Be sure to post up some pics when you are done, I have a Chevelle with almost the same color as your Camaro and would love to see how it would look.

The powder coater I'm working with told me to look at prismatic powders to select one that would work for my car. After spending a few hours going through almost all of them, I'm leaning toward forged charcoal (http://www.prismaticpowders.com/gallery/detail/8918/Prismatic-Forged-Charcoal/). Thinking about sparing myself and just coating the entire wheel instead of brushing the lip. Attached is one of the samples of the color.

The other option I was contemplating was caveman black but it seems a little too bland.

The powder coater quoted me $360 for all 4 wheels but I'll have to have the rubber unmounted.

Have you thought about Plasti Dipping the center so you can see how it will look? It's cheap and easy and might help you make a decision about the lip. I personally think a brushed lip is worth it especially since you have deep ones.

I have tried plasti dip in the past. I taped off the lip and painted but as soon as I tried removing the tape it started pulling off the plasti dip. I guess I had to use a razor blade and cut it first before removing the tape. Either way I spent a bunch of time on it and then spent a bunch of time removing.

It looked pretty good but the more rims I've looked at online the more I think powder coating the entire wheel is best. I'm 60/40.

Ended up powder coating the entire wheel a pearlescent grey. Came out awesome. $90 to pull the rubber off the rims and then mount and balance, and only $60 a rim to powder coat one solid color.

Wow man! Great color choice, they looks so good. Could I ask about your vent window trim, is it powder coated black? Car looks really good

Those look killer. I'd be in no rush to expel more funds on wheels based on the way those came out.

Thanks for the feedback guys. For the cost I spent on powder coating I feel like I've got new wheels or at least a new look.

The bent window was powder coated black as well as the door handles.
