holley terminator v. holley hp efi

So, ive done some research, and spent a whole lot of time on various websites looking into all the various ecu options for ls swaps. Ive narrowed it down to one of these two...the problem is that everyone thinks the one they have is awesome and great, but no comparisons of the two can be found(maybe im not looking hard enough).



Has anyone used both of these, or have experience with them? What are the pros/cons of each?

At the expense of asking the obvious, have you called the tech guys at Holley and outlined the goals of your project and asked for their suggestion? I've found them to be extremely helpful....as long as you're patient enough to sit on hold for 20 minutes to get through....

Unfortunately, I have no experience with the hp efi but Im currently running the terminator on my 6.0L LS swapped C20 Suburban, and its been perfect for what I was looking for. This wasn't a high horsepower build....its a 440 horsepower crate motor from Thompson Motorsports backed by a 4L65E and I use it as a daily driver. I went with the TBI set up because with the air cleaner installed, it takes a pretty good eye to realize its not carb'd. The kit that I bought also included the trans controller. I was swapping from a carb'd set up with an MSD box and FAST EZ TCU controller, and with the two stand alone units, I never felt like the engine was shifting in the proper RPM range given the driving conditions. Since swapping to the Terminator, with everything controlled by a single ECU, the truck drives great. Set up was very straight forward, and once I learned some of the initial adjustments particular to the TBI set up, it was up and running pretty quickly. My biggest complaint (although pretty minor in the scheme of things) was that the ECU was not set up with a VSS output signal for a speedometer... What I ended up doing was reassigning one of the electric fan outputs (I run a stand along fan controller on my Entropy radiator) as a VSS out, and running that wire to the speedometer.

Are you comparing the terminator LS or the tbi terminator? One of the nice things about Holley is if you choose the terminator it can be upgraded to the hp later. Same ecu, same main power harness

The Holley "Terminator" label is a bit confusing. There are Terminator MPFI kits as well as the TBI Terminator kits. The Terminator MPFI kits are all inclusive and come with the 3.5" touch screen tuning gismo as well as all the wiring harnesses. Holley only makes 2 ECUs, the HP and Dominator. Any kit that uses those ECUs can also be tuned with a laptop, without any firmware changes. The 7" digital dash now also has some tuning capabilities, as of a few days ago with the release of new firmware for it.

When ordering, just pay attention to what engine you have (gen 3 or gen 4), what style injectors you are using, and what WBO2 option you want (NTK or Bosch). If you want auto trans or DBW support, then choose one of the Dominator ECU based Terminator kits.
