      Wiring system confusion?

I am building a 1970 Cutlass and I am making more progress than ever on the car. I am not sure of what "Complete" wiring system I should use. I am thinking about the AAW Update kit. A few things to note is I am using a 2006 GTO dash, FiTech EFI on BBC 496, and pretty much power everything. Any assistance will be much appreciated.

Is there a classic update kit for a 70 Cutlass? I had to use a Chevelle kit for a 71 Cutlass. Worked great.

Yes they do. I just looked at the price. For $750 I hope it is worth it. I also entertained the Infinity Box system but that price ran me off. Haha. Not sure of the advantages VS the AAW.

This has been a long time in the making. I talked to them 3yrs ago at Good Guys Columbus and was told they'd look into in when they had enough requests. Depending on your comfort level, a universal harness can fit the bill and would be quite a bit cheaper.

I am a novice in the electrical department but wont mind giving it a try. Something like the Highway 22 might be more fitting.

I was and still am a novice, but I learned a lot during the process. Because of the Vintage Air, changing headlights, tail lights and gauges, the universal harness would have made more sense even if the update was available.
I would say if there is going to be more customization than not, go with the HWY22

It would be a lot more than that. I am very excited to see the finish though I am just now taking it off the frame. Did you use the VA kit?

Yeah my evaporator and hoses are all run. I need to finish my wiring and do the vents so I can reinstall my dash.

I'd go with a builder or universal harness because of the other Cutlass only stuff you wont use. I'd still use AAW though. We used the classic update on my friends 68 Chevelle and the builder said with all his customization the unversal builder harness would have been better.

The highway 22 seems to be the ticket for me.

The Highway 22 will work great. Make sure the condition of your lighting harnesses are good, the rest of it is hot rod anyway.

How are you going to make that dash work? I thought those gauges all ran off of the body control module?

I agree with Donny on this one. The best thing will be to build connectors from the HWY22 to the factory headlight and tail light harnesses.

I am using different gauges in the project. I will not be using the GTO factory set up.

Good deal. I now have to find the factory harness for those. I don't have any of the electrical components.

Then just buy the classic update. http://www.americanautowire.com/view...ic-update-kit/

It comes with all of the OEM sockets, grommets, etc for all the stuff that is staying stock and leaves it wide open for the stuff that's not.

The instructions make it worth the price for a person that has never wired a car before.

Yeah, if you're missing that stuff you should probably get the Classic Update and modify as needed. For me I'm wiring mine into the tail light harness and my headlights will use an new harness because they are not factory setup. There's no way I'd want to build a quad headlight or a tail light setup from scratch on my first wiring job. By the time you buy a used one on ebay, you've probably spent another $150-200 in addition to your AAW...

I am finishing my 69 Chevelle wiring. I know nothing about electricity and wiring. I bought my kit from Ron Francis. I am using a Speartech LS harness VHX guages and Vintage Air, with cruise control and several electric options. Ron Francis has helped me with simple explantions to every problem I have created. I would recommend them.

AAW has great customer service too, I can speak from the many calls I've made. With Ron Francis, you will be in the same boat as you would be with the AAW Highway 22. Unless something has changed, his stuff is not vehicle specific. You will need to build it out with pigtails and connectors too. If you're initimidated by wiring a car(and your project sounds vast) my advice would be to get the Classic Update. Its not that difficult, but to lay the wiring out in a logical fashion can be time consuming. If the Cutlass harness was available when I bought my harness a couple yrs ago I would have gotten it.
