      Axle length

I have a 9" Ford axle housing from DSE that measures 51.25 from end to end. I'll be using it on my 70 Firebird, Bear Pro+ 13" brakes, 18" 335 tires. Was told by DSE that it should be 56.25 from the end to end assembled. Well I measured everything and ordered a center section and axles from Strange, but the axles do not appear to be the correct lengths: 25.125 & 26.125. Since this is a pretty standard set-up for a second generation F body, I'm wondering if someone can tell me what the axle lengths should be?

You'll need to find out if the housing has a centered pinion.
But regardless, one of your axles should be closer to 29".
There are some online calculators that will help for the time being until you contact Strange. Also the length may change on the RH axle if you have a truetrac.

Thanks. That sounds about right. I seem to recall it's offset .5" offset, but I'm not sure. If so, that should put the axles at 29.0625 and 26.0625 (my own calculation). Using a calculator I found online, I get 29.1875 and 25.9375. Not sure what accounts for the 1/8 difference. I bought the housing a couple years ago from DSE and was told it was what they use for their second gen builds. I was hoping someone with the same unit could verify.

Yeah most of them will have the .5" offset.
