SBC Head install question!!!

I'm about to reinstall my heads on my steel '71 SBC 350 block, they're edelbrock performer rpm #6089 aluminum heads, I know I need to torque the bolts in sequence from the center out, and to do it in steps, i.e. 20% then 40% of whatever value...


it's been so long since I've done it that I can't remember the final torque spec for this! I think my machine shop told me 62# a foot

please help! lol

I have AFR aluminum heads on my 383. I torqued to 65 and have not had a lick of problems....knock on wood.

One other thing...check the torque on your pushrod guide plates if they are equipped. Follow Vic's recommendations on those. My AFR's guide plates were not torqued from the factory.

might wanna double check, I thought AL heads where higher on the torque scale??

do you use antiseize on header bolts with aluminum heads, might save your threads. ive got several sets of aluminum heads but regretfully they are monted to the shelf and not in a car.

that article in hot rod has a 350 block, with the EXACT same heads as me. Plus my machine shop told me something in the 60 range


and im using the ARP thread sealer with my ARP hardware... should be fine, that and some engine assy lube under the bolt head inbetween the washer to lubricate...
