BFG R1 tires
Tucked away in the corner of BFG's booth they had a very early prototype of their new R1 street tire. It's going to be their DOT roadrace tire and an answer to an "R" compound tire. I spoke with Richard Winchester (BFG's field guy) and he said they are finalizing the compound now (focus on auto-x or road courses) and their first tires will be out in the spring. The early tires will be smaller sizes for the imports, but then later in 06 they will be bringing out the bigger sizes for us. Its going to be cool!

It's good to see more tire manufacturers tapping into the R compound market. Hopefully they will have all the popular big sizes for us, including 335s (as I'm not sure any manufacturer currently makes a R compound 335) , and will be reasonably priced.
