Reman IROC steering box....too much play??

So I installed a reman IROC box a couple weeks ago. Everything is new in the suspension and steering linkage. I have about 3/4 inch play at the steering wheel. Basically I can move the wheel 3/4 inch before I feel any resistance.
The play is in the box for sure but I don't know if I should try another one or just live with it.
The problem is I used the Lee Mfgr adapters for the lines so they cannot be reused and I can't get anymore since they are not around anymore. My only option will be to get new lines and maybe a new pump.
I already tried the adjustment at the top of the box and did not make a difference.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or opinions!

      -Kevin

It takes a little bit of movement to open the valve in the box so you won't be able to get it to zero. Have you checked the steering column and lower shaft, -(the one with the trunion joint) for play? Have you driven it, or are you just testing feel sitting still? In other words, how does it drive?

I had 1 or 2 of these that had play, but have always been able to use the adjuster to get the play out. The fact that you cant may point to your issue.

just over a 1/2 inch is pretty good you get some of that play from bearing slack in the top and bottom of the coulum and the rag-joint coupler, drive it it should be fine, just dont over adjust the box it will cause premature wear on the recirculating balls inside

I replaced the rag joint with a ujoint type shaft from a Cherokee. It drives good except for the play. I don't remember the old box having this but it had the old rag joint and was way easier to steer so it might have had the play but just wasn't as noticeable.

Good to know that Hydratech sells them. Actually I can get the lines and p/s pump from Advance Auto Parts with a coupon and it isnt that much more than the adapters were from Lees. I wish I just would have gone that route.
I think I will drive it a while and see what how it does. I just really don't want to mess with tearing it apart again until next winter!
