      Suspension physics models

Ok.. so.. from what I have found in my research and crazy adventure, the Delphi Magnaride suspension uses a model based 4 data points:
      Steering Angle
      Pitch
Suspension Position (aka dynamic ride height)
      Vehicle Speed

What I have found is that the ESCM (electronic suspension control module) uses these 4 inputs to run the magnetic shocks with a pulse width modifier that has a range of 0-100% voltage. Steering angle is used to determine steering position and steering rotation which becomes a 5th point.

With all of that, there is a physics model that uses those 5 pieces to calculate adjustments in shock stiffness. What model(s) exist to calculate bound and rebound adjustment that would or could use this data? I've found:http://www.mathworks.com/help/simuli...uspension.html but it doesnt seem to fit.

So, I ask the hive... ideas?

I have no idea, but for the uniformed, is "suspension position" a single measurement, or is it four corners?

      each corner is measured separately

The control methods I've read about are called skyhook and groundhook, there are some good white papers written on the subject but the links I've got saved are sadly dead. They're probably still out there somewhere though.

always save pdf's! lol SKyhook is pretty awesome. The idea of referencing the sky is pretty slick. Everything I've seen about the system says it works really well. Who was the other guy on here that was playing with the magneride stuff?

You're talking to him . Lots of time at the moment as there's no oil field work, which is sadly correlated with a lack of money... Hopefully the end of this year will see me start off with that project.

haha well heres some patents i dug up of Vikings Berserker control system and one on the concept of a semi-active system: http://www.google.com/patents/US6732033 https://www.google.com/patents/US6904344 Shock damping as vibration abatement aka what may be the entire concept of semi-active systems: http://multi-science.atypon.com/doi/...-4332.16.1.177 Based of this: “Vibration Control Using Semi-active Force Generator,” ASME Paper No. 73DET-123 I havent been able to find a non-paywall version =/ I also dug up what may be what the ESCM uses as a virtual sensor to calculate Yaw and possible slip: http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijvt/2013/582691/#B10 I plugged in the sensor inputs that fit the requirements of some of the equations and they worked. What I also found is that strangely, the Suspension and brakes are technically on their own network. Also, the Yaw/Lateral-G/Pitch sensor is a CAN device in itself.

new question: "Steering wheel position-The ESCM receives a serial data message for steering wheel position input and uses this as an indication of the position and rotation of the steering wheel to determine the amount of damper control. " What is the definition of steering rotation and how is it calculated?

Sure, I'll give this a bump. I believe that the steering rotation is calculated yaw rate.
