Looking for some insight

So, I've revisited looking to build a car. I live in Pa and i had the idea to save up and buy one of the beautiful g-machine chassis from Schwartz Performance. I am still saving and will like be for the foreseeable future. I was looking at buying a decent car and simply taking the body off and moving it to the g-machine. To do this i know i need a car with a title and vin tag....but would it be possible to buy just a body with a vin tag instead of an entire car? Im looking for infromation from people who have done the research. Basically my question is what do i need to register the car when the time comes.

Hi Lou,

Glad to hear you're planning a G-Machine Chassis for your build.

You can certainly buy a body that has a VIN tag and title and use it, don't need a complete car by any means. I have never heard of anyone in the USA have problems titling their vehicle with an aftermarket frame.

To register it, you just treat it as a normal car. Many muscle cars did not have the VIN stamped on their frame, so they don't (to my knowledge) even check the frame.

Don't know if you are a fan of Roadkill on the Hot Rod Network, but they just did this same thing. They put a 70's Monte Carlo body on a stock car tube chassis. They even registered it in here California.

Love roadkill! Me and my dad watch them together. That's a fair point and right under my nose

in PA you just go to the notary with signed notarized title in hand and register it. they will never look at the car. officially, PA wants the seller and buyer present together at the notary to consummate the sale if both are from PA, but if you buy a car from out of state, you just need the signed title from the seller.
