The thing that I like is the LS1 has 7 years of aftermarket research behind it. They're essentially very similar engines, anyway. The LS7 will probably be a different story.

Just as a crude example, in '99, Stage II LS1 heads made considerably less power than Stage II heads in '04. The aftermarket is what seals my decision for the LS1 (for this car atleast).

All we need now is for the aftermarket to step up and start producing affordable blocks with a 4.00"-4.125" bore. Even a hybrid block (GenI block that accepts GenIII heads) would be better than nothing.

The LS2 isn't much of an advancement over the LS1. Its basically an aluminum 4.0" bore block and a different intake manifold. We have already had 4.0" bore blocks with the truck iron blocks anyways. The intakes are showing some promise however, as they retail (bare) for less than $250. Just need the fuel rails and such to make them work. All the LS1/LS2 parts are interchangeable. The LS2 heads are just LS6 head castings. The main difference is the location of the crank position sensor and cam position sensors on the LS2, but there are probably ways around that or ways to modify exisiting performance parts to accept them.

Has anyone thought about the SLP ZL402 shortblock? 6.0 liter iron block, 4340 crank & rods, forged pistons. $3995.

Supposed to be worthy of 575 HP, naturally aspirated with LS6 heads. Don't know what its upper limit is (power-wise), but if you were to add an intercooled Procharger....

There's been some talk about it on LS1tech.com. Nineball, what do you think of it?
