GM Ford Axle bearings

Question for you guys that have trashed your axle bearings, I could use some education here.

I have a 68 bird with a stock 8.2 rear. I read some discussion about how the pressed on bearings are terrible for side loads and would be trashed pretty quick if I ever entered a auto x event. That is fine I have a 8.5 rear that I was planing on throwing in. The 8.5 has a tapered bearing that according to further discussion is better in terms of side loading. I know they are pretty small bearings.

With this in mind I know many go to the ford big bearing ends and the more serious players go with floating rears. I read that some have even trashed out their ford bearing too.



I don't know much on the ford bearing types. Is the ford big bearings the same are the ford Torino bearing?

What would you list as a hierarchy to the GM/Ford bearings?
