National Street Machine Club... Not Real Happy

I sent the following note to the club member services website.
I have just received the NSMC "Life Membership" package... I am sad to see the "Club" going in this direction. I made the mistake of becoming a "Life Member" in another "Club" where the only benefits I get are weekly applications for life insurance and "Try It Free For 30 Days Then Buy It For Three Times The Price" Chinese tool offers. I have been a life member with this other club for 7 yrs and have yet to receive a "try it, keep it" tool or any other tangible benefit.
You know, as well as I do, that there are no benefits to being a "Life Member". Sure I will get a ton of "free" (rolleyes) stuff for my $345.00 bucks but after that there will be nothing to offer.
Of course I will not be renewing my dues and all of your "Life Member" paraphanalia is on it's way back to you in the provided envelope.
      Thanks but No Thanks...

This "offer", along with a bunch of unsolicited books and calenders, was the last straw.
I feel really bad about posting this and I am sorry I had too but I think the other members should be aware that this is not a club any longer, if it ever was.... Save your money for car parts....

Me three. Sent my first book back and did not renew my membership. Whomever thought of that idea should be canned, I have not heard a single positive comment on it.

This is bad... I like the magazine and the original concept, but this angle is gonna kill it for me too.

I hope something good can come of this... If Mr. Parkhurst is reading any of this please be aware that this is NOT a bash. It is a voicing of discontent and you need to address the issue. Having a "Club" is one thing but utilizing the membership as a "cash cow" is another. I hope the problems can be ironed out. The magazine is great but it's not worth all of the hassle and headaches that seem to be coming with it...

Scott had commented in another post that we all agreed with the process when we signed up and could get it (books, calendars, etc) stopped by calling. However, it seems like our feedback is that this is a turnoff which I agree with. I don't want to have to call. I also don't want to have to repackage and go to the post office to return stuff. I like the magazine but the other stuff is causing me to think about if I'll renew. I really just want a basic magazine subscription.

Scott, I hate the promotional stuff too.

You guys gotta get out of that business. Just print the magazine and leave it at that.

The books irritate me too. I hate having to resend stuff back like that. I'd be just fine with receiving a magazine and nothing else.

Hate the trial books as well...

      Haven't said anything till now......but

I'm not a fan of "Here read this book and if you like it keep it, if not just send it back". It's the send it back part thats tough. To repackage, relabel, and deliver it to my lokk USPS branch is a real PITA. Reminds me of the CD clubs that automatically send you stuff you never wanted unless you send them correspondence saying "Please do not send this months music choice title!".... I won't be renewing either I don't think.
I like the magazine itself quite honestly, but not enough to put up with remailing things!

I think we've got a good idea that many folks aren't happy; in an effort to keep this thread from becoming a bashing-fest if you've got some constructive feedback drop Scott Parkhurst, the magazine's editor, a PM... as he pointed out in the other thread, he's here and he listens.

I'm going to go ahead and close this thread not because there's a problem in it but to prevent any problems from happening.
