My rear deck 10" sub install

Just sharing pics of the 10" sub I installed in my 71 Camaro

View from the trunk, I need to make some L brackets to stabilize the box at the rear. Then the back of the box is going to become my amp rack. IN the end I still should have enough room to store cleaning stuff and a small cooler for shows. Total airspace is about 1 cubic foot sealed

Im kind of torn. I'm looking at it through the glass and I feel like I need to highlight it somehow instead of covering it up. I want to add a body colored (victory red) face to make it pop and add some mirrored plexi around it to give the illusion of multiple subs. Then add some open face expanded mesh as the grill covering...I would paint that black. This would allow you to see the sub from the rear glass very easily.

But of course that's the old stereo guy talking and I may end up doing the grill cloth covered low key non removable grill like I planned lol

Really nice placement to take advantage of actually hearing the driver inside the vehicle.

I'd keep it low key and covered. It will also protect it from sun damage.

Thanks! That's the whole idea....I really didn't want a sub rattling around in the trunk. They typically fire them towards the rear of the car inside the trunk. I figured this configuration will take advantage of the sub firing off the back glass and boosting the bass like in a hatchback. Keeps everything inside the car.

I know most will say bass is Omni-directional but this does make a difference

I'll most likely hide the subwoofer with the grill instead of highlighting it

My rear deck 10" sub install

Looks great I agree with going stealth, you could add done leds behind the grill o give it a little flair at shows.

      Nice clean install!

I would cover it and tint the window, but I'm anti-flashy.

Wire in a 6.4 to 7 mH (mica henry) inductor coil before using any electronic filtering it will he keep the lows cleaner before trying to filter electronically.

I think it would be really cool in you put glass on the box so you can see the sub when the trunk open. Im not sure how visable the sub would be from the front when your done, but some plexiglass out back would be unique!

Maybe if you added some materials inside the box as well to fix the color scheme... could be great!

Finished my package tray, going for the stealth look instead. Decided to keep it simple

This looks great! I had the same plan. What amp you going to be pushing it with?

Stealth look was the way to go for sure. Good choice.

Thanks, I'm going to run a sub with an older kicker KX 400.2 amp and I have two KX 120.2 amps for the other speakers. I have had these boxed up for years (obviously) but they look brand new and work great. No need to spend any more money than I have too lol.

My radio is an older Kenwood EZ500 that I had in my corvette before the Camaro. I thought about getting a newer radio, but I really like the old school look and feel this one has. The two large knobs somewhat mimics a old radio.

That looks good, you're right it does have the older style look.
And I don't think amps have expiry dates on them haha. Going to runs your components 4 ohm and sub 4 ohm bridged?

yeah components will be running 4ohms and I am bridging the sub amp and the subwoofer will be showing that amp 4ohms in bridged mode. I know a lot of guys are doing some crazy stuff with their audio, putting in touchscreen double din radios and such.....I just want something functional and simple to use lol.

I did get a music keg that's compatible with this radio and will allow me to dump some music on. Kenwood discontinued the music keg a few years ago when usb storage became more popular on radios. But unfortunately all this radio has is a aux input. So the music keg was my next best option. I didn't want to use my phone to play music.

Right on man, sounds like your set. I'm still a long time till I'll be at that stage but I think the single 10 in cabin is the way to go for sure. Keeps the trunk functional.

Now that is a nice set up. What mounting piece did you is on the package tray to recess it like that? I hope I'm explaining myself correctly.
