Pretty sure they do work, I recall Foose using a 69 tank on a 67-68 in the last season just for that reason.

I am pretty sure that would work too. We tried a 67-8 in a 69 and the filler neck stub hit the cutout in the 69. So if you used the 69 neck then I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work.

NO-NO-NO they will NOT work and I know from experience. Look at my thread.

IF you look closely at the tail pans, you will notice that the 69 plate is located JUST a little higher in the tail pan. I actually did what the OP wanted and didn't notice this small difference until after paint. I was in final assembly and found that the '69 fill ended up at the very most high point in the '68 plate opening, with 2" to go before I could put the straps on.

The ONLY way to make this work--- (and I like your idea--tried it myself)
1-get a '69 tail pan and graft in your '67 taillight openings
2-graft the '69 plate area into your '67 pan

Don't know if OP was planning a bolt in deal or not, but yeah, like most things it might take some custom work. But you'd be in the area filling the original filler hole anyways. Can't the filler neck on the 69 unit be dropped or modified at all?

The car I remember on Overhaulin was Dan's 67 Firebird from the last season, maybe you can find it on youtube or something.

I tried dropping the neck on my '69 tank---

It was a new Tanks Inc EFI tank for a '69 that had never had fuel in it. I was attempting to install into a un-modified '68 Firebird tailpan. If I were to install the tank I would have only seen about 1/2 of the filler opening through the plate opening. I put a tube into the filler opening and proceeded to pull the filler neck down. Eventually I got it centered in the opening. Excited that I had solved my problem I hooked everything up and was going to start the car for the first time. I began pouring fuel into the tank, only to see it running onto the floor.......It would seem the filler neck was now too close to level to accept fuel. I believe the OP was asking about bolt-in fitment. I am only explaining what mods are needed

Look closely at these pans....... draw a straight line across...you will see, and that 1-2" makes all the difference
