      Front or 4 wheel

      I am upgrading my Skylark with the UMI stage 2 kit with the tall ball joints and a different rear bar of theirs over the summer. I have Big Block Buick (wouldn't settle for less) in the car and have manual drums brakes still. I am going to swap the front drums to disc but still going to keep them manual. Should I also swap the rear drums to disc as well or am I good.

      I am not going with power and when I rebuild the motor next year I don't want to have to worry about creating enough vacuum for the power brakes

      The short answer is it depends. What do you plan to do with the car?

      Doing a modern front disk brake swap will improve the braking a lot, since the rear brakes only account for about 20-30% of stopping power. If you plan on running the car on a road course, 4 wheel disk is a must, but for street driving and short auto cross runs, I thinks drums in the rear would be fine.

      Thanks for the replies. Not doing full time road coarse. It will be mainly street driven. Thanks. Looks like I should be ordering some new brakes here in a few weeks then.
