Another New guy in CA
I decided it was finally time to register here, so that I could post to the forums, rather than jus reading them. I'm an Air Force Combat Weatherman living in Ventura, CA. I have a couple of projects that I'm working on in-between deployments, spending time with the kids, and taking care of the honey-do list.
One is a '64 Lemans convertible with a BBC/M-20 combo.
Progress has been pretty slow, but it would help if I'd quit changing directions every couple months. I put tall spindles and 12"/11" GM disc brakes on, and now I'm considering a truck-arm rear suspension. I'd like to put rack & pinion steering on, but haven't found one that has the right dimenions or the correct amount of travel. Once I do, it'll take a few u-joints and a little creativity to route the steering past the crossmember and headers, but that's half the fun.
My other project (more of a driver, but always a project) is a '79 Chevy C10 SNB. I've had it for 10 years and it's gone through a few changes. The engine went from a 400 Pontiac to a 402 BBC, and now it's a 454 BBC. I've added bucket seats and built a custom center console. A few years ago I added an aluminum driveshaft and changed the rearend to a Lincoln disc brake 9". Presently it houses 3.00:1 gears, but I also have a 3.50 center section that can be swapped in when the mood hits me. The rear bumper was taken from a late 70's El Camino and narrowed to fit. Later on at some point I'd like to replace the big block with a small-block and a 700r4. That would make it a much better driver (gas $$) than it is now. Maybe while I'm at it I'll finally install all of the A/C parts that are in a box in the garage.
Once I figure out how to add pics I'll put a few up here.
Take Care,
Chris a.k.a. the Weatherman
