      rear end drag

      Hello everyone
In last few weeks I have been putting time and money into my 67 el camino
I have put in my 700r trans , love it ,& and also I had my 10 bolt rearend rebuilt ,I had everything done posi ,373 gears and etc ,after I put it in ,I feel that El co does not run as strong as when it had stock rearend in ,( 273 one legged ) feels like it drags , when I let off gas I hear a humming noise ,, could the 373 be too much for ten bolt ? Or is it that just bad gears ?any clue or suggestions ?

it should feel like a beast with 3.73s. the differential should not hum. it does sound like something is pretty wrong. check with who ever did the diff if they will check it or go to another reputable differential shop and have it checked.
also is the humming from the diff?
are the drive shaft angles right?
did you have the 700r4 working with the 2.73s? if so did it hum or feel stronger?

Have the rearend shop check it in the car first.
The rearend is not going to drag enough to slow the car down .
If you jack the car up yourself and turn the rear wheels by hand, and they turn reasonably with your hands turning them, then they aren't dragging enough to slow down a 3000 lb car.
The 373 ratio and 700R4 are probably just providing engine braking when you let off the gas.
In other words, the 373 gear is making the engine braking stronger when you lift.
Also, the 373 ratio is going to make the engine work in a different rpm range.
It will just feel different, you will have to wind the engine higher to attain the same mph, but you will get up in the power band of the engine faster ..
