      Coil Spring Selection - Help!

I have been planning on QA1 coil overs for my Malibu, but the more I read the more I doubt that I need them. This car is simply a driver that I want to get the very most handling out of. It's unlikely that it will see any track time except maybe at the drag strip. Now every time I look at different coil springs I typically get frustrated and quit lol. So it's a 1980 Malibu with an iron headed 454. At the moment it's sitting on stock, sagged out coil springs and what look to be factory shocks, but I like the height. The most promising springs from my research look like Moog 5662's, but I was hoping to get some input from the pros or someone with a similar setup. I haven't ruled out coil-overs yet, but if I can get the same results from coils and good shocks I will. I plan on going to 17" wheels when I find some at a reasonable price (cheap,) in case this has any weight on the decision.

The end result I'm after is simply a fun car to drive on twisty roads at high speeds. If it will handle near as well as my 2010 AWD Charger I'd be happy.

To help the car handle you need to get some better springs under it. What kind of shape is the suspension in? I would suggest rebuilding it with performance oriented polygraphite bushings and up grading the swaybar to something bigger. Adding some heavy duty station wagon style springs will help to hold up that BBC. This will also raise the suspension a bit so you may want to consider some dropped spindles to get he height back down where you like it. Don't forget about the rear suspension either. It will have to be upgraded to be able to keep up with the front.
As you know this is not just a simple spring swap, you have to get the whole suspension working at it's best to make a car handle at it's best.

Sorry I should have mentioned I have already upgraded to an 1.375" belltech sway bar up front and a 1" out back, triangulated my jounce bars and built a brace for the rear frame rails. Right now I simply want to replace the coils because it's so spongy, but I would like to replace them with something that will work well with future upgrades.

Take a look at SC&C they have a G-body set and I heard UMI is going to offer a set soon too. Upper control arms, tall ball joints, and a Z steering box would work well too.
