Plan is for a dark silver satin finish. Bumpers and trim may be a dark metallic charcoal, or just satin black.

We'll be missing the Pomona O'Reilly Street Machine nats this weekend, but will shoot for the SCCA Championship tour next weekend in San Diego. With 150hp I was hoping to do the tight course at Pomona, but now may have to debut the car with some of the best drivers in the country. Or we try for the Hotchkis event the following weekend...

I also used the Van Steel rear coilover conversion, and loved it. With 275/40/17's on all four corners, the car really stuck!!

      Front Suspension

The front coil-over suspension will use SPC upper arms, and modded stock lower arms.

Here's some CAD I did, to design the lower mount for the bilstein's different length vs the stockish KYB shock:

      Tire Test Fit

Jumping ahead I mocked up the front suspension and test fit the new tire and wheel package. The rears will fit with less spacer, Vansteel'ss offset arms provide a lot more clearance. Thee fronts won't fit without a stupid amount of neg camber. even then there are clearance issues with the chassis and on the fender side.

      Stance!

I love the CCWs....ran those on my C5 for years...still on the fence about going with CCW classics or ET LTIIIs on my C3

      Modded front lower A-arms

Here's quick pics of the most labor intensive part of the front suspension.

Modified stock arms to accept coil-overs, and to allow the shock to drop out for spring changes, etc.

Plated sides for strength and tacked.

      Test fit, looked good.

But 20 hrs later and a cutting wheel later, got the actual coil-overs to clear. - In progress!

      Front suspension:

      Upper Arms
Adjustable Alum, from SPC. Corvette versions with solid race bushings.

Determined .5" taller upper ball joints would help the camber curve under compression. After talking with Mark at SC&C, we went with nascar screw-in style balljoint housings. The screw-in style has a narrower mount plate. This provides more wheel clearance at full lock.

Vansteel had some upper mounts to convert my eyelet shocks to a pin mount. Was able to shorten them to fit the longer shock.

Stock lower arms where modded to fit coil-overs. A large tube was used to allow easy shock removalbe for spring adjustments, without needing to remove the lower arm. Also used poly bushings along with new bumpstops all around, from Vansteel.

Was able to use some exrta 2.5" springs and helpers I had laying around. Bret Norgaard @Yawsports was able to source some taller spring hats for clearance. They were originally for off road Bilsteins. He also provided turned-down spring hardware to fit 2.25" diameter springs, needed for the tight rear application.

The Bilstein nitrogen shrader valve protruded and contacted the top shock opening in the frame. After unsuccessfully playing around with the upper mount length to locate the valve lower, I decided to just cut the hole with a cut-off wheel for valve clearance. There was more room to get the tool in there than i thought. Not fun laying under the metal sparks.

Welded and painted. Grade eight hardware.

All came together nicely, with the shock travel and ride hight in a good middle range. The adjustable system gave the needed the camber, caster and ride ht I wanted. In the end it would have been much easier to buy the Vansteel arms, where they already worked the geometry out. Hopefully the added adjustments will help under changing track conditions.

      Stock manual brakes for now.
