LS1 long block with 243 heads

$2000. I have for sale, an aluminum, LS1 long block. The block and rotating assembly came out of a 2002 Camaro SS with unknown milage on them. The heads are 243 castings off a GTO, which I had cleaned up by Advanced Induction with new springs, seats, and retainers. They were also milled to 62cc combustion chambers and installed with GMPP gaskets and ARP head bolts. The rockers are factory with the Comp Cams trunion upgrade. Pushrods are new 7.375 chromoly pieces. Lifters are new GMPP LS7 style with brand new lifter trays. The cam is a Vinci cam 216/224 585/585 112 with a new factory timing set and front and rear covers. The oil pump is a high flow Melling pump.

Everything besides the rotating assembly have about 20 miles on them. I put this motor together to swap into my 1972 Suburban. After getting it running, and taking it to the exhaust shop and having the exhaust installed, we found a slight knock from the bottom end once it was quieted down. Its most prevalent on start up.....as the engine warmed up, the knock went away. At first I thought maybe a bad lifter, but we broke out the stethoscope with the car on the lift, and its most definitely from the bottom end....my guess is the #1 rod bearing. The engine did hold good oil pressure at idle, and showed an increase in pressure as the engine was revved. I haven't taken the motor apart since I pulled it back out, so I can't be certain. I have the paperwork to go along with the cylinder heads and the cam.

I do have an engine hoist on site to help with loading for anyone interested. Im ok with shipping at buyer's expense/leg work. Please don't hesitate to call or text with any questions. Greg 585-746-9022 or [email protected]

sounds like piston slap if it went away when warmed up.

The 5.3s from that era definitely have the piston slap issue. Never heard a 5.7 do this but who knows

I guess its possible....in retrospect, I probably should have done more trouble shooting. Unfortunately that Suburban is my daily driver and I had to get it back on the road so I went with a 6.0L long block from Thompson Motorsport in Texas. Hopefully someone will find some use for the LS1.

I still have this guy if anyones interested and looking for a winter project. Open to all reasonable offers. Also don't mind parting out if someone is only interested in the block or valve train.
