And now for something completely different

Wasn't quite sure where to put this but figured you car guys and gals might like this .

My Dad recently purchased this 48 Fiat Topolino Gasser . Given the fact that he was recently given a 48 Ford 1 1/2 Ton truck we decided to pull the flathead out of it and throw some other parts at it that he acquired in a trade (think multi-carbed , open headered , cammed , flathead fun) . Definitely gonna be a twitchy little funmobile when its done .

      That is a cool find.

Are you planning to go completely era correct with the build or something more modern that will drive a little better?

To answer a few questions , no new drivetrain , we are going Flathead power if the motor we pull out of the 48 Ford is serviceable , if no then we have an Olds 455 and TH400 sitting in the parts room . The front wheels are old American racing spindle mounts and I don't think they ever made a rear wheel to match so for now the Centerlines are staying . We are thinking more along the lines of a wheel standing Ratrod Gasser to drive around town .

There is no accompanying wheel to the spoked spindle mount gasser wheel. Closest thing to period correct would be the E.T Fueler wheel; http://www.team3wheels.com/fueler.html

For those of you who took an interest in this here are some progress pictures . Its been slow going but half of the battle has been convincing my Dad to ad some safety features to this Outlaw Hotrod so that if he wrecks it at 70 years of age or more he will survive . My Brother who welds for a living helped him build the roll cage and finish welded the frame and rear diff for him . He picked up an Oldsmobile 455 and TH400 from a good friend of mine who ran the setup in his 71 Vista Cruiser over 20 years ago and had set them aside in his parents garage after scrapping out the rest of the car . I am hoping by spring we will have some pictures of him making smoke and noise Name: Fiat Motor.jpg

Motor and trans in for the first time so measurements could be taken for driveline , mock up exhaust tubes and start figuring out the firewall . This thing is going to be a hand full .

The motor is pretty much stock with a mild cam and intake and the shorty exhaust . We are going to try and do something like the Super Trapp exhaust in the end of the pipe to quiet it down a little bit . The TH400 trans has been gone through , shift kit added and a 2600 RPM stall converter installed .

Dads hoping to at least test drive it before winter hits .

I rebuilt one of those in the mid 70's that was a steel bodied drag car. That will be a hoot to drive around in !

Got the headers welded up minus the diffusers in the end (Supertrapp or similar) and moved on to fitting a radiator . As you can see its a tight fit EVERYWHERE ! He is off to the junkyard this week to try and find a firewall he can cut out of a donor vehicle and fit to this one .

My dad hooked up a battery and some gauges , filled it with coolant and fired it off . No where near being able to drive it but its always cool when you get to hear it run for the first time . Sorry for the crappy quality of the video but I didn't realize my lens was smudged til later .

One step forward and two steps back . He had to modify the rollbar slightly in order to fit his fuel cell in and create some more headroom . He will be traveling for the next 3-4 weeks so progress has come to a standstill but once he returns it will be full speed ahead once again .

Rum, Rum! Think a lot before doing. There's only so many steel Anglia's left so treat it gently.
